Return to Al-Andalus

During his upcoming visit to Spain, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi will be visiting Alhambra and Córdoba, presumably in anticipation of the imminent Un-Reconquista:

Spain: Gaddafi to go on Private Visit to Andalusia

(ANSAmed) — MADRID, DECEMBER 11 — On the eve of his official visit in Spain, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, December 17 and 18, Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, will leave for a private visit in Andalusia, on Saturday and Sunday, December 15 and 16, to see the places which are most connected with the Arabic presence on the Iberian peninsula. The news comes from a statement for news agency Europa Press by Manzur Escudero, president of Consejo Islamico de Espana (Spanish Islamic Council), who invited Colonel Gaddafi to visit Alhambra in Granada and the mosque-cathedral of Cordoba in the capacity of leader of the World Islamic Peoplés Leadership, one of the main Islamic organisations worldwide, the first to back the Alliance of Civilisations, which was proposed by Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. The official programme of Gaddafìs visit, according to sources of the presidency, will include, on Monday, a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero, to be followed by a dinner at Palacio de la Moncloa, the government’s palace. On Tuesday King Juan Carlos I will receive Gaddafi at Palacio de la Zarzuela, the King’s residence.

I didn't think Muammar was a raging Islamist. He seems more concerned with running a Socialist and Libyan nationalist government, down to a 'little green book', then an Islamic state. Although Saddam Hussein found Islam when it suited him.

I'm sure El Cid would be thrilled...

Ed,

Does this quote ring any bells?

In 2006 Muhammar Khadaffi said, "We have four million Muslims in Albania. There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe – without swords, without guns, without conquests. The fifty million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades. Europe is in a predicament, and so is America. They should agree to become Islamic in the course of time, or else declare war on the Muslims."

He may not be a radical but he is certainly a pan Arabist. He just seems to be a bit more patient and pragmatic than the radicals. He knows that if current trends continue there is little need for violence for Islam to win.

"mosque-cathedral"

That would be 'cathedral', right?
