Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/17/2011In an attempt to determine the health of the banking system, the European Banking Authority conducted a series of “stress tests” on major banks in the Eurozone. Eight banks failed the stress test, and five of those were in Spain, with two of the rest in Greece and the other one in Austria. Banks are considered at risk of insolvency under worst-case scenarios if their capitalization falls below a certain level.

In other news, according to a recent poll, any of the possible major Republican presidential candidates would beat Barack Hussein Obama if the election were held today. The poll showed 47% in favor of a Republican and 39% in favor of Obama, with the rest undecided.
