Unethical Soap

The Lush cosmetics corporation is engaging in what is commonly known as “greenwash” — the cynical exploitation of environmental causes to curry favor with the Green Left. Engaging in greenwash can even be a kind of protection racket, in which corporations that participate are exempt from boycott campaigns or even violent attacks by environmental activists.

One environmental campaign supported by Lush targets the Canadian oil sands industry. Now an advocate for “ethical oil” has turned the tables on the company, using protesters in burkas in front of one of its Canadian retail outlets to protest Lush’s profitable operations in Saudi Arabia.

Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for uploading this video from SUN TV:

(Note: I live in BC, Canada).

The area of the tar sands is very remote in Canada, it is part of the very extensive boreal forest zone. People live there only along river banks (even then, the numbers are very small).

It is a land of bogs and mosquitoes in the summer and extreme cold in the winter. Not a tourist draw!

Even if they muck up the area, I don't think anyone is going to miss it. There is plenty more just like it all across Canada.

I realize it uses more energy to extract the oil from the tar sands than pumping out the of ground in Saudi, but the world cannot afford at present to do without oil. There is no substitute on the horizon at all right now. Let us be real.

Moving away from oil will take decades.
