Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/22/2010

Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/22/2010President Barack Hussein Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, was unaware of the terror plot that was just foiled in Britain. His ignorance of the recent arrests in England and Wales was revealed when he was interviewed by Diane Sawyer on ABC News yesterday. His staff had not briefed him on what had just happened.

In other news, a prominent imam in Ghana is predicting doom in 2011. Sheihu Imam Rashid Hussein Salawat Qutubu Az-zamaan says that an “the unbalanced nature of the world where there is too much weight to one side” will cause extensive natural disasters. He proposes to remedy the situation by constructing huge pyramids along the equator, and also by having leaders recite the Koran 220 times.

Hansel and Gretel Meet Mohammed

Hansel and GretelBelow is a very peculiar news story from the news site for Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

I was struck when I first read this by its resemblance to the “Hansel and Gretel” fairy tale: a woman with ulterior motives uses sweets to lure a boy and a girl into her home. In this case, however, it’s not an oven that awaits them, but… recitations from the Koran!

Many thanks to our Bulgarian correspondent RR for the translation:

A 36-year old lady named Nejla was arrested for the illegal detention of a child in her home in Plovdiv [Bulgaria’s second biggest city]. According to sources familiar with the case, she is a radical Islamist.

For quite some time Nejla used to lure a 13-year old girl and her 10-year old brother, promising them sweets and some reading of tales from “interesting books”. This Saturday afternoon the children visited Nejla’s flat, where she began to read to them the Quran. The religious recitations were boring to the children so they wanted to go home, but Nejla threatened them that Allah would punish them, and that “infidels’ hands and feet should be chopped off” [a true Quranic verse — RR]. The children were upset and terrified, and the boy managed to escape from the flat, all in tears. Meanwhile Nejla locked up the girl in her flat. After the boy raised the alarm with some neighbours, police intervened.

Nejla is a Bulgarian who adopted Islam fifteen years ago. She is a fervent Muslim and wears a black burka leaving only her eyes visible. Most of her neighbours consider her “not dangerous”, and some believed she needs psychiatric treatment. “She’s only able to frighten small children,” said an elderly lady neighbour. After the present incident, however, they seem to have changed their minds…

Locking Up the EDL

Guramit SinghThe legal strategy suggested for Guramit Singh of the English Defence League assumed that Mr. Singh was being charged for what he said in his BBC radio interview. However, that appears not to be the case, based on news stories that appeared in the British media today.

The case against Mr. Singh is based on what he said at the EDL rally in Peterborough on December 11. For those who are interested, the six-minute speech that got him in trouble is available on video. The language is quite salty, and I don’t want to ask Vlad to do another bleep-job, so you can click the link if you want to hear it.

You’ll notice that Mr. Singh realized that he might well be arrested for what he was saying. You’ll also notice that he said nothing about race, and saved his vehement condemnation for the ideology of Islam (or Islamism), and not Muslims.

He said some very insulting things about Mohammed, but Ol’ Mo has been pushing up sand dunes for 1400 years, so how can he possibly be offended? The Crown has no case.

But that won’t stop them from throwing the book at Mr. Singh to make an example of him. The authorities are determined to break the EDL, and the politically correct “hate speech” statutes are pliable enough to do the job.

The first article is from the BBC. It doesn’t mention the name of the arrested man:

Man arrested over Peterborough protests

A 28-year-old has been arrested and bailed in relation to protest marches in Peterborough.

The English Defence League (EDL), which says it opposes Islamic extremism, Unite Against Facism [sic] and the TUC, demonstrated on 11 December.

The man, from Nottingham, was arrested over the offence of intentionally causing religiously-aggravated harassment, alarm or distress.

He has been bailed to return to police in Cambridgeshire in February.

Peterborough Today, however, names Guramit Singh:

A Defense Strategy for Guramit Singh

One of our English contacts — known as “G-Man” when he sends us tips — happens to be a lawyer. After reading about yesterday’s arrest of Guramit Singh, G-Man sent us an outline of a possible defense strategy for the English Defence League spokesman when his case appears in court:

Hi Baron,

I saw your post about Guramit Singh, and I thought I’d give you a bit of legal analysis as to the chicanery the authorities are trying now.

Guramit SinghI assume that the report you’ve received is correct, that Guramit has been charged under “Section 4b Public Order Act, Racial Aggravation”, and that that charge relates to the BBC radio interview.

What this means is that they’re charging him with (a) an offence under S. 4, and that that offence was (b) racially aggravated.

First, the S.4 part of the alleged offence (key words highlighted by me):

4. Fear or provocation of violence.
 (1) A person is guilty of an offence if he—
  (a) uses towards another person threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or
  (b) distributes or displays to another person any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting,
with intent to cause that person to believe that immediate unlawful violence will be used against him or another by any person, or to provoke the immediate use of unlawful violence by that person or another, or whereby that person is likely to believe that such violence will be used or it is likely that such violence will be provoked.

4(a): Is it “threatening, abusive or insulting” to say that Mohammed was a “disgusting figure”? It is not enough simply to say that someone was insulted by it.

Nor is it enough that the words were insulting towards Mohammed — they have to be used “towards another person”. Guramit said in the interview that these were insulting words “towards Mohammed” but that doesn’t mean they were insulting towards another person. E.g. I admire Cromwell, but if you or Dymphna have Irish heritage, you may say he’s a disgusting figure. That wouldn’t be “threatening, abusive or insulting” even if I feel insulted by it, plus it wouldn’t be “used towards” me. And the justness of the statement is relevant to the question of whether it’s insulting.

4(b): This is broadly worded. It includes a situation where (1) you believe that (2) my words are likely to provoke (3) Mike Tyson to punch (4) Britney Spears immediately. Or if a British Muslim is likely to believe that Guramit’s words are likely provoke an EDL guy in Bolton to punch a Muslim neighbour immediately.

The key word is “immediate”, and I don’t think you can reasonably believe that this (pre-recorded?) BBC interview was likely to result in immediate violence.

I think what we’re seeing here is the deliberate twisting of already broadly drafted laws in order to make it impossible to criticise Mohammed. The strategy appears to be to prosecute people that the government feels are unpopular enough for them to be able to ram through a conviction, in order to establish the precedent that criticism of Mohammed is a crime.

Second, the ‘racially or religiously aggravated’ bit. Section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 says:

An Unusual Hobby

The following article about Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff appeared today in the print edition of Wienerin , a glossy Austrian magazine. I have no idea what the magazine’s politics are, but based on the cover images displayed on its website, it seems to be an Austrian version of Vanity Fair. If so, this article is a remarkably even-handed view of Elisabeth and her case.

Many thanks to JLH for the translation:

Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
by Sylvia Margret Steinitz

She is said to have incited hate against Muslims, and is before the court on a charge of incitement. But even a conviction will not silence Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff. S. M. Steinitz accompanied the new figurehead of the Islam critics to Copenhagen. And witnessed how Sabaditsch-Wolff made her trial a manifesto — and gained in political influence.

Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff 3The prosecutor apparently did not consider it necessary to prepare for the trial. No, he said, he had no questions for the defendant. The tape recording of her comments, the basis for the charge against Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, 39, he had only heard “in excerpts.” On this tape, covertly recorded by a reporter in the fall of 2009, can be heard how Sabaditsch-Wolff — during her seminar “the Fundamentals of Islam” — says to a participant, among other things,: “Cardinals rape in spite of their religion. Muslims rape because of their religion.” Sponsor of the seminar: the Freedom Education Institute. A charge was laid after a report appeared in the weekly magazine, NEWS.

A year later in Room 31 of the Viennese Regional Court: the prosecutor seems confident of success, almost bored. Even the onlookers do not doubt that a verdict will be reached quickly: Sabaditsch-Wolff — guilty of incitement and denigration of religious doctrines. Like Susanne Winter, that FPÖ representative who was convicted two years ago because of her comments about the founder of Islam. (“In today’s system, this Mohammed is a child molester.”)

But it was different this time.

Big Entrance

Defense attorney, Dr. Michael Rami, turns to Judge Bettina Neubauer: “Your Honor, today it is not Mrs. Sabaditsch-Wolff, but freedom of expression that is on trial.” At first, Neubauer acts unimpressed. What did Sabaditsch-Wolff mean when she said that about rape, she wants to know. “When a Muslim marries a nine-year old,” says the defendant, “he can invoke Islam, which allows him to do that.” “How do you conclude something like that?” asks the judge. “Muslims are supposed to emulate the Prophet in all things,” is Sabaditsch-Wolff’s answer. “That is what it says in the Koran.” She holds up a copy of the Muslim holy book. “And because Mohammed married a six-year old, Muslims, in Yemen among other places, still assume the right to marry and abuse children.” She gives the judge a penetrating look. “I have a six-year old daughter. I do not want something like that to happen to her.” Neubauer asks matter-of-factly: “Why should that happen?” “Because Europe is under threat of Islamization,” says Sabaditsch-Wolff… I give my seminar to inform and warn people.” “What do you think you call forth with such statements, if not hate?” asks the judge, who was already somewhat unnerved. “I do not create hate,” replies the defendant calmly. “Reading the Koran causes far more hate than my seminars.” The trial is adjourned.

Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/21/2010

Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/21/2010The United States Senate voted 67 to 28 to clear the “New Start” arms control treaty for a final vote, so that the treaty is all but certain to be ratified. Eleven Republicans joined with the Democrats to vote in favor of it. Sen. John Kerry hailed the vote as an important step towards drastically reducing the danger of nuclear weapons.

In other news, the Chinese commerce minister says his country is “very concerned” about Europe’s debt crisis. As well it should be — China holds a massive amount of euro-denominated debt. Meanwhile, Citibank says that there will be more bank failures in Europe in the new year, and probably also bailouts for Portugal and Spain.

The Setting Up of Tommy Robinson

“We will continue to do this. You can put us in prison. You can put me in prison. I will continue to do this. We will have an HMP English Defence League Division in the first prison I go to.”

The video below, which was just released today by English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson, is very timely, thanks to today’s arrest of Guramit Singh.

In his video testimony, Mr. Robinson describes what has been happening to him and members of his family over the last few months. He has been set up by the police, subjected to repeated raids on the flimsiest of pretexts, and arrested in front of his children by officers carrying automatic weapons. His parents and other family members have been terrorized by the police to put pressure on him. His bank accounts have been frozen.

Worst of all, one of his old friends who is facing a serious criminal charge is being offered a walk if he sets up Tommy Robinson. As Mr. Robinson points out, if this attempt fails, there will be another one after it, and another one, until one of them finally succeeds and he is sent to prison.

This brave man refuses to be silenced. He made this video as a testament to what has happened to him, so that when the cell door eventually clangs shut behind him — as it surely must, sooner or later — his suffering and struggle will not have been in vain.

If you support the English Defence League and its struggle against the Islamization of England — or if you support the resistance to Islamization anywhere, in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, India, and elsewhere — spread this video around, mirror it, forward it to your email lists.

Tommy Robinson’s voice will not be silenced. “We will never surrender.”

The Arrest of Guramit Singh

A week ago we posted a video of a BBC interview with the English Defence League spokesman Guramit Singh. As I pointed out at the time, Mr. Singh showed exceptional intelligence and skill fielding the questions that were thrown at him by the Beeb.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one who noticed his talent: Guramit Singh was arrested today. An EDL contact just sent this note:

I’ve just spoken to Guramit Singh. He has had his phone taken, but is in the process of getting a new one.

He has been charged under Section 4b Public Order Act, Racial Aggravation. The usual bail conditions: can’t speak at any EDL events. He is due to appear at Huntingdon Police Station on the 5th January 2011.

Can you publicise that he is OK, and post whatever you want out of the above info?

I will not get more info on this until tomorrow, as the police have confiscated his phone.

This is all I know for the moment. It seems that the intimidation and oppression are being ratcheted up in line with the phenomenal success of the EDL.

To refresh your memory, I’m reposting the video of the BBC interview below the jump:

Muslims and Westerners: The Psychological Differences

The following article by the Danish psychologist Nicolai Sennels was originally posted at the New English Review. It has been republished here with the permission of the author.

Muslim prisoners

Muslims and Westerners: The Psychological Differences
by Nicolai Sennels

Introduction by Nancy Kobrin, author of The Banality of Suicide Terrorism: The Naked Truth About the Psychology of Islamic Suicide Bombing[1]

When I first read about Nicolai Sennels’ work concerning therapy, which he had conducted with criminal Muslims in Denmark, I knew that it would be groundbreaking. I hope that you the reader will listen closely to what he has to say.

I also had the opportunity to conduct prison interviews of Muslim detainees, which were not interrogations. Minneapolis has the largest diaspora of Somali Muslims outside of Mogadishu, and there was an overload in the county jail. I was trying to decide if I wanted to draw up a research project. Pressured for time and with too many other responsibilities plus receiving a death threat during one of the interviews, I decided against it.

Like Sennels, I came away with a similar sense that Western law enforcement and the general public did not understand why there was so much crime in the Muslim population. And why there has been this problem of jail house converts to Islam who then become radicalized through contact with other criminal Muslims during incarceration.

Islam is the perfect religion to give justification for those who feel under attack and to maintain the eternal “victim” fantasy. Islam is also “higher” than Christianity because it comes last in co-opting the revelations of Sinai and the New Testament. What a perfect receptacle for projecting hatred. Islam incites, encourages and permits hatred of the Jew and Jihad. It’s perfect for a fragile personality that has the need to hate and the need to have an enemy. There are billions of people out there who share those sentiments and that profile. As an underdog religion, Islam provides great mass appeal, which even Eric Hoffer, the author of The True Believer, noted in 1951. It should come as no surprise that its numbers are growing. If one has a grievance, Islam will take care of it.

Sennels adeptly outlines the key problems of why Muslims are not able to integrate into Western culture. What he doesn’t say, I shall name. We are dealing with nothing more than paranoia. Sennels stresses that the West must set boundaries because otherwise they will kill you. This kind of rage is malignant borderline behavior as in serial killing. We must come to understand such politically incorrect observations as Sennels does in order to connect the dots concerning criminal Muslims even though it is brutal.

Happy well-adjusted children do not become suicide bombers nor do they become criminals. Let us choose to know what we are dealing with rather than bury our heads in sand out of terror. Let us meet the challenge straight on as Sennels has. If the Swedes had intellectual fortitude, Nicolai Sennels, the Dane, should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for standing up and proclaiming that the “Emperor Has No Clothes.” But then again, that is a Danish tale and the Swedes are left with Ingmar Bergman’s drama. Need I say more?

Background

February 27th 2008. On a cold and windy Wednesday (for cyclists like myself), I took a deep breath, grabbed the microphone and did something that changed my life. In front of the Copenhagen Mayor’s Integration and Social Services Office there were gathered several journalists, a faithful Muslim musician from the famous MTV-band ‘Outlandish,’ dozens of Imams and Muslim spokesmen and a couple of hundred social workers with Muslim and Danish backgrounds. I began to say what everybody already knew, but, what nobody either wanted or dared to say: that those who are referred to as foreign criminals, religious extremists, or terrorists in the making and who are the cause of lawless parallel societies (what the conference “Diversity and Safety in the City” was about) are all Muslim. I argued that we should stop talking about “criminal foreigners“ and start using the more precise term, “criminal Muslims.“ As a psychologist, having had more than a hundred Muslim clients, I told them that politicians and professional social workers need to understand the cultural and religious backgrounds of criminal foreigners. That is, if we want to come up with, at least, somewhat effective and targeted plans on how to reduce the social unrest, anti-democratic religious movements, the violent and anti-social forces among foreigners.

I was met with strong criticism from all sides and no support at all!

Just as most soldiers in the front lines die in the first attack, many of those who attacked political correctness have experienced negative professional or social consequences. I was no exception. The Mayor of Social Services was clear. I should either refrain from using stigmatizing expressions or find myself another job. Actually I was trying to stop the so-called stigmatization of all the non-Muslim immigrants by focusing on the one group that creates all the problems. But you can’t fight City Hall. Our biggest national newspapers and radio news programs got hold of the story and the mayor was strongly criticized by the media experts on free speech and by the Danish blog-sphere. For about a month there was not a day when my name was not in one or more newspapers and the fighters for free speech took another round. I was no longer an anonymous psychologist. My name was known by everybody who read newspapers in Denmark and especially Islam-critical blogs on the internet put me in the spotlight.

Instead of keeping my mouth shut, I decided to write a book about my experiences with Muslims based on hundreds of therapy sessions. The whole circus that had happened concerning my case had already shown the necessity of breaking the taboos around criminal Muslims. Further, a serious discussion about the relationship between the Muslim culture and criminal, antisocial behavior is, indeed, very much needed. I managed to negotiate a deal that gave me four months severance pay. I am probably the first psychologist in Copenhagen who was offered $20,000 dollars for quitting his job voluntarily. I guess they just wanted to get rid of me, ASAP. I found a well-paying job as a Military psychologist doing psychological screening of soldiers returning from the war in Afghanistan. I also started writing my book, in which I describe a psychological profile of the Muslim culture. The title of the book is Among Criminal Muslims: A Psychologist’s Experiences from the Copenhagen Municipality. (Free Press Society, 2009).

After having consulted with 150 young Muslim clients in therapy and 100 Danish clients (who, on average, shared the same age and social background as their Muslim inmates), my findings were that the Muslims’ cultural and religious experiences played a central role in their psychological development and criminal behavior. “Criminal foreigners” is not just a generalizing and imprecise term. It is unfair to non-Muslim foreigners and generally misleading.

Belligerent Burqa Bimbo: Busted

In a couple of news feeds last month we featured the case of a culturally enriched Australian woman who was pulled over by a cop for a routine traffic stop. She angrily insisted that the fact that she was wearing a niqab was the reason the cop stopped her. She went so far as to file an official complaint against him, accusing him of “racism”, and even insisted that he had attempted to pull off her veil.

As we all know, this sort of charge from a burqette is enough to ruin a career. Fortunately for the poor police officer, there was a dashboard cam in his car which recorded the entire encounter and vindicated him completely. The young woman was eventually sentenced to six months in jail for filing a false complaint, but has now been released on bail, and is appealing — although obviously not to many Australians.

Here’s a comprehensive TV news report on the case. Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for YouTubing this video:

Letter from a Flemish Mother to a Moroccan Mother

This letter was forwarded to a blogger on a Dutch news site. It was written by a woman in Antwerp to the mother of an imprisoned Moroccan criminal. The woman wrote the letter after seeing the criminal’s mother on a Flemish television news program.

Many thanks to Timo of the Dutch Defence League for the translation:

Dear Madam,

I saw your vehement protests in front of the TV cameras against the transfer of your son from a prison in Aarlen to a prison in Leuven. I heard your complaints about the distance that separates you from your son and the difficulties you have in visiting him.

I also noticed the media attention from journalists and reporters about other mothers in similar situations: they are defended by several organization for human rights and such.

I am also a mother, and I completely understand your protests and discontents. I want to join you in your battle because, as you will see, there is also a large distance between me and my son.

I work hard, earn less, and have the same financial difficulties in visiting my son. With a lot of effort I can reach him on Sundays, because I work all the other days, even Saturdays, and besides that I have my family duties towards my other children.

In case you didn’t understand it yet: I am the mother of the boy that was brutally slaughtered by your son, in the gas station he used to work for at night to pay for his studies and support his family.

I will visit him again next Sunday. While you hold your son in your arms and cuddle him, I shall only lay some flowers on his modest grave at the city cemetery.

Fjordman: Why Islam Must Be Expelled From The West

Fjordman’s latest essay has been published at Winds of Jihad, and also at Europe News. Some excerpts are below:

On the 11th of December 2010, the first-ever suicide bombing in Scandinavia occurred when Taimour Abdulwahab, an Iraqi-born Muslim and Swedish citizen with a wife and children in Luton, Britain, was carrying explosives and mistakenly set off an explosion near a busy Christmas shopping street in Stockholm just before he could murder dozens of people.

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, who is a passionate promoter of having Turkey as a full member of the European Union and Islam as an established part of European culture, stated that “We were extremely lucky… I mean minutes and just a couple of hundred metres from where it would have been very catastrophic.” Sweden’s intelligence agency and a news agency received an email with audio files in which a man called on “all hidden mujahedeen [Islamic holy warriors] in Europe, and especially in Sweden, it is now the time to fight back.” He criticized Sweden for its military presence in Afghanistan and its acceptance of the artist Lars Vilks, who had made some cartoons mocking Muhammad. The message warned that “now your children, daughters and sisters die like our brothers’ and sisters’ children die.”

We’ve been told for years that suicide bombers who blow themselves up in civilian areas in Israel are “freedom fighters struggling against Israeli occupation.” Does that mean that this Muslim blew himself up to protest against the Swedish occupation of Stockholm?

Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/20/2010

Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/20/2010New York Mayor Bloomberg has expressed his displeasure with Rep. Peter King, who has announced his intention to hold hearings on radical Islam when the Republicans assume control of the House next month. Mr. Bloomberg thinks such hearings are “not appropriate”, but he might want to reconsider, given that a recent Pew Research Center poll shows that even “moderate” Muslims entertain extremist beliefs.

In other news, more than 200 Shi’ites were arrested in Malaysia for breaching Sunni law on Islamic practices.

Make Way for Mohamed

Cultural Enrichment News

Our Perth correspondent Anne-Kit sends this tale of extreme enrichment from her local daily, The West Australian. The article is not available online, so she kindly transcribed it from the print edition of the paper.

She includes this note:

This story has a Mohammed Coefficient of 100%, and I’ll bet my next salary that this would not even be a news story had the perpetrator been Fred Smith, white Aussie battler. He certainly would not be in line for getting his licence back!

Meet Mr. Mohamed, erstwhile and future taxi driver:

Banned taxi driver may be able to work again

West Australian, 20 December 2010

Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed, taxi driverA Queens Park father of seven banned as a taxi driver because of his infringement-riddled traffic record has been thrown a lifeline by the Supreme Court that could have him back behind the wheel.

The Department of Transport cancelled Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed’s taxi licence last December because of the “number or nature of convictions for offences under the Road Traffic Act”. The State Administrative Tribunal upheld the decision after an appeal.

But Supreme Court Justice Jeremy Allanson found last week that SAT member Bertus de Villiers erred in his judgment and concluded a different tribunal member should reconsider the case.

Mr Mohamed, who was a taxi driver for eight years after moving from Africa, said he was struggling to provide for his big family and could not find work because he had only one arm.

The tribunal judgment said Mr Mohamed had 36 demerit points over four years from 16 separate incidents, 12 of which were while he was on duty.

There were eight incidents of speeding, two of making illegal U-turns and one each of running a red light and a stop sign.
