The Truth Does Not Matter

In honor of Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, and in solidarity with her in the face of the Star Chamber proceedings launched against her for “hate speech”, Vlad Tepes has extracted and YouTubed this fine clip from a speech by Christopher Hitchens:

See Vlad’s place for more. The entire speech is here.

Hitch benignly calling the festering antisemitic Holocaust-"revisionist" (AKA denier) crank David Irving "a British historian" is like disningenuously calling the Pastor of the God Hates Fags! church "an American theologian".

Irving should have been deported, not imprisoned.

And mocked, not defended.

His "Hitler's War" is a laughable attempt to whitewash the blackest scumbag of the 20th century, and Irving excoriated those who had the courage to try to assassinate this monster (in the July 20th 1944 plot) as "traitors"..

There is no need to perfume a stinking lickspittle for Hitler in order to mock the infra-hypocrisy of the Austrians.

But Hitch is a kneejerk provocateur.

Emphasis on jerk.

Profitsbeard - That David Irving is wrong is not the problem. The problem is that he was charged for voicing and unwelcome opinion, an opinion that is not supported by the evidence available.

But it is the fact that he was imprisoned rather than mocked, shunned and his enormous errors pointed out that is the scandal.

Let idiots be idiots. But we become fools when we silence them by throwing them in gaol. It is not a crime to be a fool, but we have to know them when we see them, so that we can ignore what they say (and thus we might perhaps learn that it is better to be silent and be thought of a fool than to speak and remove all doubt).

And while I am Catholic, and Hitchens a militant atheist, well and truly do I stand with him and say "Kiss my arse".
