Armed Iraqi terrorists dressed in military uniforms attacked and killed at least 24 people in a Sunni village near Baghdad. The murderers gained the trust of villagers by impersonating American and Iraqi soldiers. The attack may have been a retaliation by Al Qaeda in Iraq against a Sunni tribe which decided to oppose them.
In other news, desertification is becoming a real concern in the Middle East and North Africa. It is thought that up to a fifth of the available farm and pasture land may become lost to agriculture by increasing aridity and a shortage of water for irrigation.
