President Barack Hussein Obama, concerned about the budget deficit and the rising national debt, is considering increasing government revenues by imposing a mileage tax on American drivers. The scheme would involve a special monitoring device that would be installed in every vehicle, and then drivers would pay the tax through an automated system at gas stations when they fill their tanks.
In other news, Jefferson Keel, president of the National Congress of American Indians, has objected to the codename “Geronimo” that was assigned to the operation that killed Osama bin Laden. He says it is offensive to Native Americans.

Our current road use taxes on gasoline (which we purchase by the mile since we drive by the mile and use the gasoline by the mile) aren't enough?
Oh, yeah, we're "saving" fuel with more efficient cars and buying less gasoline (thereby paying less taxes).
What to do? Oh, the answer is obvious... create a new tax on top of the existing tax...
Argh...

1) Firstly, Americans who happen to be Indians (I refuse to use the term "Native Americans") should be proud of the use of that name, not "insulted".
2) The concern among non-Indian Americans for the sensitivities of American Indians (as, for example, the concern among non-aborigine Australians for the sensitivities of aborigines) is directly related to the #1 reason why the West cannot permit itself to apply reasonably pejorative prejudice (based upon thousands of dots of data reasonably connected) to Muslims.
I know a guy who works for a company that works on such mileage schemes and other road charging programmes. Even two years ago he was saying that it will happen but it depends on when the right political moment arises. Is it to be soon?
I can understand why Jefforson Keel would be a bit put out.You cant compare Geronomo With Bin Laden ,can you?

Does anyone care to guess as to whether Mr. Keel would be offended if "Geronimo" was the code name for a covert operation that meant to kill someone who was White?
The word "Geronimo" is thoroughly embedded in American English. Much like "aspirin" and "kleenex", this word joins the ranks of other proper names that have now become common coin.
Mr. Keel belittles himself and all American Indians by whining about something he would be better off taking pride in.
Apparently Democrats take all Americans for fools as their voters have proven to be. Gas taxes are already a mileage tax and a regressive one since you pay the same whether driving a rust bucket or a luxury car. Whatever you call the tax, the people who need their cars more are forced to pay more e.g. people who have to buy or rent housing far away from their jobs and public transit because THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO LIVE CLOSER. THESE are the people Obama's tax will hit, you know, the working poor.
The Dems must be calculating that their voters are largely city dwellers who use public transit or taxis or if they own a car are liberal chumps so increasing gas taxes will be disproportionately hurting despised flyover country.
The State of Oregon is dominated by "Liberal Chumps", City of Portland/Salem/Corvalis/Eugene voters who accept Billion Dollar light rails from no-where to no-where, hundred-million Dollar trolley cars from rich areas to rich areas, forcing difficulty on drivers by destroying parking and limiting capacity of surface streets. Cars exist only to fund bicycle paths, empty passenger light rails, and pedestrian esplanades.
Gasoline taxes are not enough for road repair, this requires special levy on property owners.
It's the most-Caucasian city in the USA. It's also the most hostile place for children of the traditional American. Public schools teach self-hatred for White children, and glorify the low-IQ illegally-present "oppressed". It's a battleground for the soul of America far from the Southern border.
I was born here 43 years ago, my mother in 1947, and her parents just before WWI. It's gone from a wonderful place to a privately run Soviet.
Cheers.
