Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/3/2012The first debate of the presidential campaign — covering domestic policy — has been generally conceded to Mitt Romney, although much of the mainstream press is pointing out many errors made by Mr. Romney in his exchanges with President Obama.

In other news, Russian security authorities say that Al Qaeda is to be blamed for a wave of wildfires in Europe. Jihad-minded Islamic zealots have been promoting such tactics on their websites as a cost-effective method of damaging the infidel, and have also given tips on how best to set the fires.

Meanwhile, Iranians have taken to the streets and clashed with police over the rapid inflation of the country’s currency, which has lost 40% of its value against the dollar over the past week.
