Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/29/2012

Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/29/2012Hurricane Sandy came roaring ashore in New Jersey this evening, making landfall north of Cape May and south of Atlantic City. With winds of up to 90mph, it wreaked havoc up and down the coast in Delaware and New Jersey. A storm surge of 13 feet was recorded at the Battery in Manhattan, and other places witnessed 10-12 feet. ConEd shut down power to Lower Manhattan as a precaution, leaving the skyscrapers of the city in eerie blackness.

As of this writing the storm is over the Philadelphia area, making a big turn as it crosses Pennsylvania.

We’ve seen some wind and a lot of rain here in Central Virginia, but nothing like they’re experiencing further north and east.

In other news, a strain of tuberculosis has emerged in Eastern Europe that is resistant to multiple antibiotics.
