Update: Acquittal on Final Charge Against Wilders

This just came in from Reuters:

Prosecutors ask for Wilders acquittal on all charges

AMSTERDAM Oct 15 (Reuters) - Prosecutors asked a Dutch court on Friday to acquit anti-immigration lawmaker Geert Wilders on charges of inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims.

Prosecutors, who had already called on the court to drop a charge that Wilders insulted Muslims by comparing Islam to Nazism, said his comments targeted Islam and not Muslims as a group. They said he also had the right as a politician to make statements about perceived problems in society.

There is still the necessity for the judges to agree to drop the charges, but it’s hard to imagine them going against such a strong request from the prosecution.

When translations from the Dutch come in, I’ll post them.

Fantastic News!
Looking forward to the defences closing argument. Will that be Monday?

They said he also had the right as a politician to make statements about perceived problems in society.
Indeed, right and duty.

Sanity finally prevails!

It's ridiculous that things had to go this far, but perhaps it was necessary in order to force people out of their sleepwalk and into reality.

Why did the prosecutors bring this case if they think the defendant should be acquitted on all charges?

Randian,

Because the court ordered them to.

The prosecutors has looked into the complaint earlier and had decided that they didn't have a case. But the Amsterdam court thought otherwise and ordered the prosecution regardless.

Wonderful news.

If this is how Wilders foresaw the outcome of this whole affair, then he is a genius. Not only is the act of critisizing islam vindicated, but the whole rotten nature of that ideology has been entered into the public record, as we have witnessed.

If the minaret vote was El Alamein, this was Stalingrad. There is only one direction from now on, the one that leads to victory.
