Three news stories about Pakistan are juxtaposed in tonight’s news feed, and their juxtaposition grants them a poignancy that might not otherwise be noticed. One concerns a couple in the tribal areas who have been sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. Another tells the story of two Christians who were on trial for blasphemy in Faisalabad, and were shot to death outside the courtroom while handcuffed. The third story reports that the United States will give $7.5 billion to its staunch ally in the War on Terror. With friends like these…
In other news, a prominent Greek blog administrator was shot to death execution-style outside his home early this morning. Meanwhile, the Ulema Council of Indonesia discovered that it has been misdirecting Indonesian Muslims for months, and has been pointing them towards Africa instead of Mecca when they pray.
