Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/17/2010U.S. Marine Cpl. Matt Garst, a squad leader in Afghanistan, is one tough soldier. He stepped on an IED, which exploded directly beneath him. To the amazement of his squad, after being blown fifteen feet away, Cpl. Garst immediately sprang to his feet and continued to lead his squad for the rest of the day. He reports that he was very sore when he woke up the next morning.

In other news, Virgin Galactic’s private suborbital spacecraft made its first flight with a crew onboard. Meanwhile, Britain is paying potential illegal immigrants in Calais £3,500 apiece to go home and not try to enter Britain.
