Three British soldiers were killed by an Afghan policeman after an argument at a checkpoint in Helmand province. Some senior British commanders are now calling for the introduction of a “cocked and locked” policy for their soldiers, as American forces in Afghanistan already have in place.
Elsewhere in Afghanistan an Australian Special Forces serviceman was killed in a firefight. Also, a suicide bomber in Kandahar killed seven Afghan civilians. Meanwhile, Afghanistan has accused Pakistan of launching cross-border rocket attacks that have killed Afghan civilians.
In other news, the British intelligence services have uncovered and thwarted a plan by Al Qaeda in Yemen to blow up an American airliner just before this summer’s Olympics in London.
