Gates of Vienna News Feed 6/22/2011

Gates of Vienna News Feed 6/22/2011Tonight’s news feed is brief because I’m away from home. It consists of material that came in before I left, most of it due to Fjordman, who is indefatigable these days with news tips.

Normal service will resume in a few days.

To see the headlines and the articles, open the full news post.

Thanks to AC, Fjordman, Gaia, JL, Steen, and all the other tipsters who sent these in.

Commenters are advised to leave their comments at this post (rather than with the news articles) so that they are more easily accessible.

Caveat: Articles in the news feed are posted “as is”. Gates of Vienna cannot vouch for the authenticity or accuracy of the contents of any individual item posted here. We check each entry to make sure it is relatively interesting, not patently offensive, and at least superficially plausible. The link to the original is included with each item’s title. Further research and verification are left to the reader.

Wonderful news about Geert, and about Freedom of Speech about Islam!!! Bad news for Taqqiya! Can't wait for Geert movie on Muhammad.

Thanks, Nilk. Everyone should read the article and the comments.

As I see it, there is ZERO cause for celebration because the Netherlands' court simply punted the 'free speech' versus 'hate speech' ball to the need-it-be-said (?!) UNELECTED SUPRANATIONAL United Nations Human Rights Commission - thus giving the notoriously Islam-friendly body the ability to set international precedent on this issue - and guess what the United Nations Human Rights Commission is going to decide?!

A better result would have been for the national court to strike down the offending hate speech law - which still stands to harass the common man who faces more serious free speech constraints than a politician like Geert Wilders.

I doubt the UN will do anything, but it's early days yet. I've been following the UN's debate about "blasphemy laws" and the support for such laws have been waning over the past 10 years.

I love those trousers you're wearing in your picture nilk. You ought to take a picture with a thumbs up next to them and send it to the company that made them, maybe it would really brighten up some interns day. I bet he would mount the picture on his cubicle wall next to a picture of his mother. Poor guy, things have been tough on him lately.

Al-Qaeda and the Libyan Rebellion

A new report from two French think tanks concludes that jihadists have played a predominant role in the eastern-Libyan rebellion against the rule of Moammar Qaddafi, and that “true democrats” represent only a minority in the rebellion.

The report describes members of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Libyan Islamic Fighting Group as the “main pillar of the armed insurrection.” “Thus the military coalition under NATO leadership is supporting a rebellion that includes Islamic terrorists,” the authors write. Alluding to the major role played by the Cyrenaica region in supplying recruits for al-Qaeda in Iraq, they add, “No one can deny that the Libyan rebels who are today supported by Washington were only yesterday jihadists killing American GIs in Iraq.”

@ Homophobic Horse... we see the light. You're a textile manufacturer and you made the material for nilk's pants. Right, am I right?

'Twas never in doubt. Youda thunk our Feckless Leader would've read the bajillion After-Action Reports from Iraq and known ahead of time

Congress is miffed and getting miffier.

Do you think BHO watches Wile E. Coyote cartoons (between golf games) and figures out his Libyan Leap Forward from those?

Whatever. The Intrepid Road Runner with a Hundred Names will probably get out alive. Maybe he already has...

This will not end well, and as usual, the US will be holding the body bags.

Mebbe this man is trying to set us up for Ron Paul to take over.
