Disabled-rights activists in Greece are up in arms over a recent decision by the Labor Ministry to grant official disability status to pedophiles, exhibitionists and kleptomaniacs. Leaders of the advocacy groups say they are afraid that adding the new protected categories may cut into their government disability payments, which are already under pressure from the current austerity regime.
In other news, a shop selling alcohol in a Shi’ite-dominated area south of Beirut has been firebombed. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
