“Things Always Get Worse in the Middle East”

Here’s Ezra Levant talking about the new sharia dictatorship in Libya, and also the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Tunisia and Egypt. As he points out, the issue is not the accession of a new thug in Tripoli — that, after all, is business as usual in that part of the world — it’s the fact that the Western democracies used military force to install this particular thug, and are trumpeting the outcome as “freedom for Libya”.

Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for uploading this video:

Libya, Egypt, Tunisia ... none of them is in the Middle East. They are African countries.

Actually, it depends on whose definition you use. I share your preference for using "North Africa" to describe the countries on the southern littoral of the Mediterranean. But using "the Middle East" to describle everything from Marrakesh to Tehran is fairly common.

There is also the Maghreb, which includes Lebanon and Israel as well as Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. As far as I know, Turkey is not included within that designation, but is given to "Asia Minor" instead.

Dictators, popular uprisings, "liberation", bad mullahs, and so on.. they come in cycles and leave the land barren, like sandstorms. As long as Islam determines the cultural traits of a people, there's one allegedly "Arabic" numerical that closely approximates these wastelands' odds for democracy as we know it.

In short, "Islamic republic", a travesty. "Islamic democracy", an oxymoron. Islamic nations, waste-lands. A terrible waste of sand.
