Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/16/2011Amnesty International has warned the National Transitional Council in Libya to stop torturing its detainees, and criticized the NTC’s arbitrary detentions. Up to 2,500 people have been detained since late August.

In other news, the “Indignados” protests have spread to Switzerland, where demonstrators took to the streets to protest social injustice.

Meanwhile, a hairdresser in Italy who had been living on disability benefits due to her “total blindness” was discovered riding a bike, and even reading a newspaper. The Italian authorities have taken her to court and intend to recover the fraudulent payments.
