“We Con the World” Is Up and Running Again

It was bound to happen. The YouTube poobahs removed “We Con the World”. I suppose the original tunesters didn’t like Caroline Glick’s clever reinterpretation. Whatever.

She says on her website:

As Israel went offline for the Jewish sabbath, YouTube removed most versions of Latma’s hit parody song, “ We Con the World”. If you try to access the song on YouTube you receive the notification:

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Warner/ Chappell Music, Inc.

[…]

If YouTube didn’t already have a track record for censoring pro-Israel material, I would say that despite the obviously frivolous and unsubstantiated nature of the copyright claim against We Con the World, the company was simply erring on the side of caution.

At the same time, this is not YouTube’s first move to silence Israeli voices. During Operation Cast Lead, the IDF Spokesman’s Unit established a YouTube channel and began posting combat footage on its channel to bypass the anti-Israel media and go directly to news consumers.

Shortly after the IDF channel began making waves, YouTube - which is owned by Google - removed IDF videos from the website. After the move evoked a storm of protest, YouTube restored them but flagged the videos in the same manner it flags pornography…

- - - - - - - - -
People trying to access the videos received a screen saying, “This video or group may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube’s user community. To view this video or group please verify that you are 18 or older by singing in and signing up.”

Read her whole post to see the carefulness with which she played this. She has a link to a story in Haaretz about the same issue with IDF videos. As she says:

The fact that more than 3 million people have already seen the video and that it has been written up in major newspapers and featured on major television networks around the world since we first posted it last Thursday night however causes me to fear that something else is going on here.

Me, too. Conservatives and libertarians and Jews live in a world whose default is leftist and under-the-radar anti-Semitic and anti-black. That would be funny, since many folks in those groups don’t like or trust one another. But suppressing anyone’s voice is never amusing - unless you’re one of the suppressors.

Human nature is inherently clannish; this is hardwired into our mammalian brains. Yet we can act within the bounds of extreme cognitive dissonance and not even notice it. Thus, the existence of the phenomenon of “the suicide Jew”.

You’d think that the experience of oppression would create a bond between and among its victims but it doesn’t. In fact, various factions are at one another’s throats. Victimization does not make the milk of human kindness flow in one's veins.

At any rate, as designated members of the “baddies” club, we have to build work-arounds to alternative sources in order to continue to be able to communicate with one another.

Thus Hot Air put up a version of “Con the World” on Eyeblast.

And Vlad tepes has just gotten up his version on bankoran, and has some good material on what constitutes “fair use” on his post, “Youtube: messing with the wrong Jews”:

The 1961 Report of the Register of Copyrights on the General Revision of the U.S. Copyright Law cites examples of activities that courts have regarded as fair use: “quotation of excerpts in a review or criticism for purposes of illustration or comment; quotation of short passages in a scholarly or technical work, for illustration or clarification of the author’s observations; use in a parody of some of the content of the work parodied…[emphasis in original].

The blog, No Sheeples Here, points out how difficult it can be to function overtly as a Jew. She mentions a quote from Mark Twain that I hadn’t thought about in a while:

“…If statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of stardust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. Properly, the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world’s list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvelous fight in this world, in all the ages; and had done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it.”

This appeared in Harper’s magazine in 1899. You may be able to access the whole essay on line, but the Harper’s of today wouldn’t be likely to publish such material.

America was quite anti-Semitic in 1899; it has always been so to some extent. Jews were quota-ed at Harvard and the other ivy Leagues - otherwise they might ‘take over’. You know how pushy they are. There were also many areas where they weren’t permitted to live and many clubs that refused to accept them as members.

The more things change, etc: There is a country club right now, one in a very liberal, oh-so-politically-correct town near here. Very posh and totally goyish, thankyouverymuch. Full of promises of equality and “we are the world” sentiment. Of course local Muslims can join the country club, especially Iranians. Funny how that works.

Here’s a new version of “We Cons” and a hat tip to vlad for it:

If this doesn't work, let me know...

By the way, you know who the wecons are, don’t you? The newest version of the neocons, of course. Militant Jews, out to take over the world.
