Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/6/2012

Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/6/2012I’m too old to stay up all night watching presidential election results, especially when a contest is as dispiriting as this one. As of this writing, the race is still too close to call. But as Zero Hedge says, it doesn’t matter — “Today’s election is merely a choice of who is going to captain the sinking Titanic.” So when I wake up tomorrow morning, I’ll find out whether we’re going to have just plain economic collapse, or economic collapse PLUS a bonus EMP.

In more interesting news, city officials in the township of Alexandria in South Africa are offering a cell phone as a reward for every 60 rats caught. The city has been plagued recently by a massive infestation of rats.

Land of the Free
- My condolences to the American people, and to the rest of the West

Seems they are still on the revenge level, playing "Respect", Aretha Franklin tonight. What else could be the reason to choose such a title on this night?

Sad day for the peoples of the world who appreciate freedom

I agree there isn't much of a difference except that Obama will do a Thelma and Louise peddle to the metal to our economy and foreign policy.

And he has won. The GOP IMO is finished, they had no business electing a bland gordon gecko corporate raider as a presidential contender. There was no way this out-sourcer to China would have won in the rust belt states, guys like him are despised there. And Ryan with his gut the SSI and Medicare plan - well that turned off a lot of seniors.

In many respects it was a replay of what happened in California when Feinstein vs. Carly Fiorina - who gutted HP and Lucent and was nicknamed the "wrecking ball" by silicon valley. She went down in flames. Nobody wants people who are essentially anti-worker hatchmen or women.

The GOP elects tone deaf anti-populist politicos and gives them tone deaf advisers, often the same ones who Bush and McCain used.

It will not surprise me in the least to wake up one morning and find D.C. and Manhattan nuked. Good riddance to both I say. Both have had far too much negative influence on the rest of the country.

If not that then a economic collapse followed by tens of millions of Obama welfare moochers and illegals going on the rampage and burning down every major city in the U.S.

I truly believe Obama will usher in a race war.

In the meantime it would be wise for people to consider closing out smaller 401K and IRA accounts in the coming months and reposition funds accordingly.

Your opinion saddens me.

Surely you must see that had Romney won you would at least have had someone who cares about America and its place in the world; someone who values the respect it once had and no matter how many hurdles, would genuinely try to improve the lot of all Americans and stand for American values.

Now you have someone who has proven that he cares not for honor; not for strength of the US; and not for the people who created the finest country in the world.

Yet you seem to believe that the only difference between them is the size of the calamity that they will bring.

The difference between them could hardly be greater.

As bad as the US election result is, there are other things going on, like the suppression of free speech in Norwich because of one complaint by an anti-Semite; so here's mine:

Hollow words, firing up the masses. Can't help but think of Hitler

At 1am EST Virginia went 0bama. If it's any consolation, 0bama had already won and Romney had already conceded by then.
As I write this Florida is still not final, but the returns I'm seeing he will likely win that too.

Obama lost in every state with
photo ID law

- So who really got to vote in those other states?
