Evicted to Make Room for Asylum-Seekers

The Observer has translated a news story from today’s TA.no about a woman who has been evicted from her apartment to make room for immigrant asylum-seekers who are being imported en masse into Norway:

Cried when she lost her flat

Painter and decorator Master Asbjørn Sletholt is currently evicting tenants to make room for newly arrived asylum-seekers heading for Skien [a small town in southern Norway]. Mona Hellelid is one of those affected. She cried for ten hours when she was handed the eviction notice.

“We are without rights in our own country,” says Hellelid.

Friday afternoon she got a visit from Sletholt who handed her a notification of termination of the tenant lease. Hellelid and the other 45 tenants in P. A. Munchs Street 45 have to move out. The property in the northern suburb of Skien is one of several properties in Sletholt’s portfolio.

Asbjørn Sletholt has been given the task of finding temporary accommodation for 150 newly arrived asylum-seekers by the private company Hero Norway, who are acting on behalf of the UDI [The Norwegian immigration Department].

The painter and decorator master has been a major player in the private housing rental market in Skien for the last 20 years.

Cried

“I heard some rumors a month ago that our building was about to be converted into temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. I knew straight away what was happening when he showed up on my doorstep.”
- - - - - - - - -
Hellelid has rented the apartment for $5,200 Nkr [approx US $1,000] since May last year.

“How did you react?”

“I can’t describe it. It really knocked me off my feet. I cried for ten hours straight after I was given the eviction notice.”

In the dark

“Did Sletholt offer you a new accommodation?”

“No.”

“Where do you go from here?”

“I don’t know. But I can guarantee you that I’m not going to make it easy for him. I’ll have to await the situation. I’m not the only one affected by this eviction notice.”

Frightened

Mona Hellelid is on a disability pension and she’s not optimistic about her future prospects. The demand for new apartments is huge, and the prices are high.

The new wave of asylum seekers coming to Norway has forced the UDI to find thousands of new temporary apartments to house these asylum seekers. Hellelid thinks its frightening that ordinary tenants have to be sacrificed by profit-hungry landlords trying to please the UDI.

As far as I can see, they are all equally crazy.
Is there an individual left to be sympathetic with?
It is like watching pods of whales gone haywire who will not be deterred from beaching themselves.

I may appear hard-hearted saying this - but we need more, MUCH MORE of this sort of thing.

However, we would also need the media to heavily publicise these sorts of stories. That's the bit I have no optimism about.

That is a single most disgusting thing I have read for a very long time. What about people in Skien? What about relatives of victims?

Henrik R Clausen said...

Actually, what we need is not so much the incidents, but rather people standing up against them, be they tenants, lawyers or politicians.

Clausen--
Can we say there ARE people standing up to be counted in Norway?

What's with the anti-capitalist screed in this article? It has nothing to do with the problem, namely immigration policy.

Randian: What is happening is an anti-freemarket intrusion by the state.

The state is using stolen funds ( taxes ) to evict longtime residents, and replace them with Sixth Century barbarians, who, as the welfare rotters they are, make perfect mendicant voter plantation residents.

These rotters will continue to vote socialist, in order to keep their free housing, and in order to get their relatives into the country as well ... when they have a majority, they will all vote sharia.

Capische?

Media coverage or not, after enough of these incidents, people are going to start getting killed for such idiocy. Be it the landlord who suckles at the state's cash cow teat, the politicians who implement such insanity or the officers who come to evict the victim in question.

Nothing will change until people start perishing for their participation in this sordid farce. Europe will have to be deluged with these sorts of gross violations of human dignity until the fuse gets lit. The sooner this bomb explodes the better. Further delays only lead straight to the charnel house.

I've seen this meme couched in several different ways but never quite so clearly as this. "[V]oter plantation", sums it up with almost painful clarity. The socialist scum responsible for this treasonous conflict of interest need to dangle from lamp posts.

With the Berlin Wall's destruction, one might have thought that freedom had finally come to Europe. Instead, the entire Continent is voluntarily traipsing into the slaughterhouse without a backward glance.

Like I said, things will change only when these slithering apparatchiks begin paying with their lives for the abject betrayal of indigenous citizens. Nothing else can or will moderate this sort of base ideological greed.

I suggest the evicted tenants take a crash course in leftist political activism.

They should study how French militant movements such as Droit au logement regularly stir up illegal immigrants in order to claim free or subsidised public housing through street marches, occupation of churches and private buildings, hunger strikes, etc.

Then, they should proceed to do exactly the same thing. For instance, they could set up some tents in a public place where they would be a major annoyance to people around. Fifty of them in the middle of a posh city square would do nicely.

Let them spread the Norwegian flag over their tents, too. That would make for quite a stunning sight, and it would send an appropriate political message.

I you have some pregnant women around, or families with kids, be sure to take them along and push them in front of TV cameras.

All that is standard fare when socialist do-gooders claim housing for illegal immigrants.

Make sure the media is there. Then sit back and enjoy.

Alternatively, they could occupy a mosque.

So the Norwegian government interferes with the housing market to raise prices by paying inflated rates to landlords who house asylum seekers. The latter will never repay the costs to taxpayers of feeding and housing them, health care and education. Meanwhile, natives are bumped and forced to take a dive in standard of living as any alternative housing they may find will take more of their income.

Taxpayers suffer a double whammy. How is the government able to continue this farce without being thrown out in elections? Sure they're gaining the votes of the parasites, but why are they not losing the votes of the taxpayers who still for the time being outnumber them?

Is Norwegian culture inherently masochistic, or suffering the acquired stupidity of socialism?

Could anybody from Norway tell us how this is technically possible?

The evicting party is a private landlord. Is there a law forcing him to accept whatever tenants the authorities wish to help?

Or does he have a financial incentive to evict Norwegians and take in asylum-seekers? And if this is the case, how does this incentive work?

In France, the indigenous working class widely believes that immigrants get to jump to the front of the queue for council housing (although there are, to the best of my knowledge, no figures to support this -- but that's by design, since ethnicity-based statistics are savagely suppressed).

But we are speaking of private housing here. Is Norway more socialist that France? I did not think it was possible this side of Cuba.

The financial incentive is pretty simple.

The State has decided it wants a plantation. The working poor get to pay for it. If the state cannot find enough rooms, it simply spends as much tax money as it needs to do so.

The working norse can't compete with a government that can write blank checks ... especially when they are the ones paying for those blank checks.

Oh, and Robert ... when native europeans act like Islamists a-holes, they get branded as neo-nazis, and out come the riot police, with orders to kill instead of orders to watch.

This is happening all over the Western world. In every Western country, we are being dispossessed of our lands by unworthy colonizers, heavily subsidized by our own tax money. To make matters worse, we can't afford to have children like the colonizers do, because we pay all those taxes, and in addition, the colonizers have made our societies so unsafe, we wouldn't want to bring children into them anyways.

I would suspect that the situation is much like that here in America. We have a thing called Section Eight Housing.

My landlord thought nothing of jacking up my rent while taking a 30% loss to move a mentally deficient @ssclown into the duplex where I've lived for 20 years.

This moron would run a bath at 3:00AM, put her psycho toy dog out to bark on the front porch at 1:00AM and leave her garbage in the laundry room only to shrug off any objections from me when my wolf-hybrid managed to eat cooked chicken bones in her abandoned trash.

All this so my landlord can get an iron-clad $1,000 rent check from the government, a week in advance, every month like fricking clockwork.

I dread to think how many more incentives there are in socialist loony bins like Norway. Eff knows they probably pay the landlord DOUBLE to oust some harmless native in favor of housing a bunch of Islamic thugs.

This is similar to Section 8 in the U.S., where rents are kept artificially high by giving subsidized housing vouchers to immigrants and other parasites, and they get to live in the same neighborhoods as people who pay full price. Lots of extra crime, noise, ethnic tensions, etc.

Kbarret: "When native europeans act like Islamists a-holes, they get branded as neo-nazis, and out come the riot police, with orders to kill instead of orders to watch."

Tut, tut. A small dose of rethorical exaggeration is fun from time to time, but this really gets in the way of sound thinking.

Are you Norwegian? Zenster's assumption is closer to what I was trying to understand.

By the way, Zenster, thanks for the Section 8 details. I don't understand the 30% loss you wrote about. Do you mean that the new, subsidized tenant pays 30% less than you used to, and that the difference is made up by the state? Or that the total revenue (direct payment + subsidy) is 30% less than before?

Anonymous said...

Robert Marchenoir, here's how section 8 works: the low income person gets a housing voucher from the local housing authority, then takes the voucher to a participating, market rate landlord. Let's say the rent is $1000 per month. The tenant will pay $300 to the landlord, and the housing authority will pay the landlord $700. As far as I know, the percentage of the tenant's income they pay can vary, but I'm not sure. The other tenants in the same building are regular working people without subsidies, so they are paying $1000 to live in a building with a charity case. As Zenster observed, these section 8 folks aren't like the rest of the people in the building. When the others are keeping regular hours because of work, the section 8 type, who has a lot of free time, watches television at all hours, etc. And you can't organize against it, because then you look like a racist, because guess who uses section 8--blacks and immigrants. Where I live, the Vietnamese community pays off the housing authority for vouchers, and they're not really poor people, they have off the books small businesses. They drive brand new mini-vans to their renewal appointments at the housing authority. I know this stuff because I used to temp at the Alameda Housing Authority, which is totally corrupt, as many of them are. And worst of all, there are only a limited amount of section 8 vouchers available, so genuinely needy Americans are routinely turned away, because all the vouchers are already taken up by the immigrants who bribe the housing authority executives. (The lower level social workers I knew were honest.)

Oh, and the 30% loss Zenster refers to isn't fixed, but there are guidelines for how much rent section 8 tenants can pay, so if his building's units rent for 30% more than the guidelines, the landlord could lower the rent for that tenant in order to get them and their subsidy.

Anonymous said...

I just remembered, the Section 8 tenant pays a percentage of their income, probably 25 to 30 per cent of their monthly income towards the rent. And by "income," I mean disability or other entitlements. Don't get me started on disability...some of those disabled people ride their high-end mountain bikes faster than I do. And then there's the handicapped placards on cars that let the disabled get parking spots reserved for them...and many of them look pretty fit, actually. "Disabled" seems to be a euphemism for black underclass.

You're welcome. latté island summed it up pretty well. The next-door unit used to rent for $1,500 per month. The Housing Authority will only pay a maximum of $1,000 per month. In order to get this guaranteed income stream my landlord decided the hit was worth it.

Now I'm stuck with a white trash moron who thinks nothing of leaving her television set blaring away while she goes to the store. She also walks around outside yakking constantly and loudly on her cell phone. She has threatened me and also threatened to vandalize my car among an endless list of outrageous horseradish too long to post here.

Zenster said...

Oh, I left out the part about how SHE NEVER GOES ANYWHERE. Aside from short shopping trips and walking her rat-in-a-dog-suit, she's ALWAYS AT HOME. Maybe once a year this shut-in visits her mother for a week during the holidays. Other than that, she is a constant presence and continual annoyance.

It would be an outrage if these were ONLY sponges, leeches, welfare-queen-bastard-factories. But we must remember that we are in fact importing ULTRA-VIOLENT-THIRD-WORLD-BARBARIAN-THUGS.
For now, we will "only" see a decrease in our quality of life (as Zenster describes) and increased crime rates, but when the demographic mass of the perennially thuggish Mussulmen becomes great enough then widespread violence will become the norm, as it has in every country where Muslim numbers are large enough.

Robert: It ain't exaggeration. Pull the same crap that the islamists pull, and you will get branded a neo-nazi.

Insist on doing it in spite of government orders to the contrary, and eventually the cops firearms will come out.

But if the islamists hold car-b-ques, the police simply withdraw. I just call them as I see them.

Yes that's essentially true. I'm surprised if Robert hasn't noticed.
