A Lego Jesus

Christians Outraged by Jesus Made out of Lego

Lego JesusApril 12 (Associated Reuters) — Christians took to the streets all across Scandinavia today to protest the unveiling of a statue of Jesus made entirely out of Lego blocks.

Gangs of rioting youths threw paving stones and bottles, broke shop windows, set cars on fire, burned Israeli flags, and chased hapless Jews down side streets.

One angry demonstrator, dressed in an “I (heart) Jesus” T-shirt and wearing a cross around his neck, told reporters that Christianophobia must not be tolerated. “They can’t insult our Savior this way! There are 2.1 billion Christians in the world, and we will not sit idly by while our Messiah is dishonored!”

He added, “I believe in free speech, but there are limits.”

The Swedish government assured the Christian community that the perpetrators of this cowardly act would be found swiftly and brought to justice.

All right, I admit it. I made up the above news story.

But not all of it. There really is a Lego Jesus. According to Danish TV, a life-sized statue of Jesus built entirely of Lego has been unveiled in Önsta Gryta Church in the Swedish town of Västerås.
- - - - - - - - -
It’s built of 30,000 Lego blocks, and its creators emphasize that no glue was used in its construction. The statue has a steel rod in its center and a stone in its base to stabilize it, but the rest is made up entirely of interlocking Lego blocks.

The project took more than a year to complete, and the church was packed when the statue was inaugurated at today’s Easter service.

The work is a Lego replica of a famous 19th-century statue by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. The original resides in Copenhagen Cathedral.

Happy Easter everybody!

Oh, I don' care if it rains or freezes,
Long as I got my plastic...
Hangin' from the dashboard of my car.

Yes, yes, the remarks ARE in bad taste; I agree. Still, they're kinda funny, doncha think?

A blessed Easter to all my Christian co-commenters. Though I am not a believer, I deeply appreciate that the founding principles of my cultural heritage were delivered by Moses and Jesus and NOT by some self-appointed and dubious prophet.

Thank you, Christians, for delivering the ideals of Jerusalem to all of us, intact after 2,000 years.

As a favorite son among Denmark's artists, one of Bertel Thorvaldsen's most famous sculptures, The Lion of Lucerne, memorializing fallen Swiss troops, resides outside of Denmark.

@Top Kafir--

"Plastic Jesus" *isn't* in bad taste. It's hilarious.

I know a nun who really liked that song of Lehrer's. She used to sing it real loud as she drove down the highway. And she had a plastic Jesus on the dashboard, too.

I used to give some of my old copies of "Mad" magazine to the nuns. They like to laugh.

See, the thing is, TK, when you're comfortable with what you believe it's all either funny, full of grace, or both.

But then Lehrer wasn't a hater, he was simply irreverent.

Where have all the Lehrers gone?
___

BTW, Billy Joel's song about Catholic girls was also entertaining:

"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than pray with the saints".

Me too.

MUSLIM PREACHER ATTACKS EASTER

ATTACK: Choudary speaks against Christian day

Sunday April 12,2009 By Ted Jeory

EASTER is evil, proclaimed Muslim preacher of hate Anjem Choudary last night as he plumbed new depths by delivering his vile attack on the holiest Christian festival of the year.

MUSLIM PREACHER ATTACKS EASTER

The Express has disabled comments. Cant see why. It is not as if Christians will be threatening anyone with death.

Gone to flehrers, everyone....

Hey - if they had created a plastic Muhammad, I just might do some rioting, too!

For obvious reasons, I vastly prefer statues of Jesus over any of Mo.

Just what I thought. That you were pulling my leg, Baron! Had it been Lego-Mo then it has been an all different story.

Just imagine what a furore Muslims would raise if an artist made a statue of Mo using Lego and porcine adhesive.

It would once again raise the question if Muslims were fit to live in the West.

How dare Choudary say Easter is evil!
We celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus who came to show us the way back to God and die for our sins.
Christianity was around hundreds of years before Islam and God`s word doesn`t change. It is eternal!
