Bipartisan Opposition to the DHS Report

Below is a video of Senators Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), and former Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA) commenting yesterday (April 21, 2009) on the Department of Homeland Security’s “Rightwing Extremism Report”. The interviews took place outside a Senate hearing room, following a meeting of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security.

As most of you already know, outrage has been focused on DHS recently because of a report that labeled those opposed to abortion, illegal immigration, and a metastasized federal government as “Right Wing Extremists” who need to be kept under surveillance.

Thanks to The Washington News Observer for the tip and the original videos; the paper does not seem to have a working website. Thanks to Vlad Tepes for combining the three original videos.

In some respects, you are behind the news. The releasing of OLC memos regarding "torture" are much more damaging to our nation than anyone calling us right wing extremists...
So, now "pink belly and open hand slap" are considered torture as is making someone be nude...
I am the youngest of three children. I guess I was tortured!
I saw a man on C-Span this morning that gave, I think, the best definition of torture I have ever heard. He reminded the audience that Christopher Hitchens allowed himself to be water boarded. He then asked Mr. Hitchens in a debate whether he would allow someone to pull his teeth with a pliers or tear his nails out. He claimed that if you would allow yourself to try one of the "torture methods" then it was not torture. That made a lot of sense to me.
I am sorry to say that someone is going to need to be hit big time again before the left wakes up. An open hand slap or a pink belly is not torture. It is humiliation and there is a difference.

In some respects, you are behind the news.In some respects??

We are not a media source. We report on stories that interest us but we aren't averse to putting up information that is months old.

"Torture" is going to be defined by what side is talking about it. I don't doubt that Obama will permit what he defines currently as "torture" when the exigencies of a particular situation require it.

Just as he has umm...changed his mind on Iraq, Gitmo, etc., much to the disgust of some of those on the left.

When you say someone is going to need to be hit big time again before the left wakes up... I wish I could believe that. However look at Clinton's passivity in the face of numerous incidents of being "hit big time".

Seems to be that the left takes its aggressions out by demonizing the right rather than actually doing anything.

They don't think there is any external enemy worth fighting against and they welcome the interference of government in private affairs -- as long as government is not herding up any of their sacred cows.

Had DHS gone after Moveon or Acorn's voter fraud, etc., you'd be able to hear the screaming now. And until Acorn is reined in (don't hold your breath), there won't be any more fair elections in this country, despite the video evidence of mass cheating.

Scatch an ACORN and you'll hear an angry outburst about how they're just getting even for Bush stealing the election in 2000.

Anyway, depend on this: we'll always be a bit late to the scene, especially when it comes to posting.

I could not help be surprised at the disconnect of putting out a report about right wing extremists and the FBI then had to put a left wing extremist on its top 10 most wanted list.

Those pesky leftists keep popping up and ruining the good times the Democrats are having.

I posted below that I'm a LGF refugee. I never realized there were so many.

Napolitano is one crazy b____. She has got even the normally phlegmatic Canadians riled up by equating the Mexican and Canadian borders (so as not to hurt Mexican feelings by treating them differently because of tens of thousands of invading illegals and the 5000 dead annually in the drug trade).

She is also singularly ill informed or a pathologic liar by perpetuating the fantasy that the 9/11 crew came across the Canadian border.

Most entered the USA from abroad perfectly legally. The 11 illegals also came from abroad.

Slowing traffic to a crawl on the northern border is going to cause economic hardship for both trading partners at a time when both can ill afford it. Meanwhile the southern border continues to be a sieve admitting parasites.

Left wing Canadians were overjoyed at getting Obama and the Dems. Since they are overwhelmingly in secure government and union jobs, they won't be the ones suffering the most from his idiotic policies and moronic cabinet picks.

Obama's foreign policy pattern is quite clear. Alienate and treat allies like dirt. Cozy up to and abase America to left wing dictators, especially the King and probable sponsor of the 9/11 terrorists.

Domestically, Zero's agenda is to demonize the productive members of society and elevate the idlers.

Oh this is all going to work out well.

Actually, the crazy Napolitano is on Fox News.

And recently there have been a few stories that indicate that maybe, just maybe, the DHS's concerns are legitimate. You can find links to them on LGF - which can be of use sometimes.

But you're probably too busy putting your fingers in your ears and shouting "la la la, I can't hear you!"

Hi Nodrog, the same old straw man, eh? You've pulled that one before here -- you must have missed my reply last time. But I'll try again.

I've never been a fan of DHS. NEVER. Check the record.

Actually, I don't know why I bother answering -- 10 to 1 you won't ever return to this thread.

But talking to phantoms can be fun!

Well, I suppose in your mind Baron all we have to do is deport all of the Muslims and Mexicans in the U.S. - then all our problems will be solved, and as long as we cancel all flights to Mexico City and Riyadh we can shut down the Department of Homeland Security.

Or is the previous paragraph yet another strawman?

Well, dog my cats, Nodrog! You came back!

Yeah, sure -- sounds like a plan to me. Why don't you write your congressman?
