Norway: Cops in Hijab?

Police in hijabAs Muslim populations in the West have increased, the wearing of the hijab has become a matter of contention. Some of the issues are:

  • Should the jilbab or burka (which prevents facial recognition) be allowed on public transportation?
  • Is it unreasonable to forbid the hijab under school dress codes?
  • Should non-Muslim women cover up when in the presence of Muslim men?
  • Should police officers and other uniformed government personnel be permitted to wear hijab?

Some European countries, notably Britain, allow policewomen to wear the veil, but others forbid it. Norway is in the process of making a decision on the issue, according to VG Nett, as translated by our Norwegian correspondent The Observer:

The Norwegian Police Directorate is considering allowing female police officers to wear hijab.

A 23-year-old woman from Sandnes in Rogaland has sent a letter to the directorate asking them about their policy on female police officers wearing hijab on duty.

The 23-year-old woman, who is originally from Algeria, arrived in Norway eight years ago and wants to become a police officer. However she fears that her career choice may not be fulfilled as she wears a hijab, a decision that she made a couple of years ago.

A spokesperson for the police directorate, Marianne Østensen, tells the local newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad that the directorate doesn’t wish to comment on this particular case while it’s up for review. The directorate is currently looking at how other countries national police forces are dealing with the issue.

The written request is the first of its kind. The national police academy’s recruitment office has received similar inquiries, but these have always received negative replies.

In Sweden and England female police officers are allowed to wear hijab on duty.

“We implemented this policy many years ago, and it’s not an issue here anymore,” a representative from the recruitment office of the Metropolitan Police in London says.

Female police officers in Denmark are not allowed to wear hijab.

It’s important to remember that, collectively speaking, all of these hijab requests are probes. The results of each probe tell the Ummah where an infidel country is strong and where it is vulnerable. When a vulnerable spot is detected, it is probed again, and again, and again.

The fact that the UK gave in on the hijab issue so easily is one of the reasons why so many additional Muslim demands ensued, which is part of why Britain is so thoroughly Islamized today.

That's quality -- with the face covered, there's no way of knowing if the person really is the one to whom the badge and authority were legitimately given, or some imposter.
