Below are excerpts from an essay by Pamela Geller about the current crackdown in Britain. It was published today in the American Thinker.
Darkness Descending in England
By Pamela GellerThe arrest of over 53 people in the United Kingdom is the beginning of the end for once-great Britain. The leaders of the English Defence League (EDL), Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll, were among those arrested, as well as Paul Weston of the British Freedom Party (BFP). I spoke with Kevin Carroll about his recent arrest and that of Robinson and Weston, and he told me the appalling details.
Carroll told me that British authorities tried everything in the book to stop him from running for police and crime commissioner (PCC) for the Bedfordshire Police Authority. Nonetheless, he officially won the right to run for PCC last Friday. But then, the very next day, British authorities carried out these mass arrests of EDL and BFP members, stripping them and forcing them to wear white paper overalls like those given to incarcerated terrorists. They were allowed no phone calls.
Meanwhile, British police raided the homes of Carroll, Robinson, and three others who had been arrested. “They absolutely ransacked mine,” Carroll told me. “They smashed the door off and wrecked my home. They took my only vehicle, with all the tools of my trade inside, and impounded it, as well as Tommy’s car.” The police, the bomb squad, forensics teams, and sniffer dogs spent seven and a half hours stripping Carroll’s van to the bone. “When they finished,” he said, “they found nothing! They loaded it up with bugs and GPS monitors and threw everything in the back; it looks like it’s been in a blender.”
After smashing the door to Carroll’s home off its hinges, police officials repaired it, got a locksmith to put on a new lock, and left with the new keys, leaving Carroll locked out of his own home. When Carroll was released, still wearing his white paper prison suit, it was dark and raining; true to form, police officials offered him no transportation, even though it was late at night on a Sunday.
[…]
Carroll’s bail hearing is set for November 30, which gives him just two weeks after the November 15 elections to prepare his defense. Anyone who can vote for Bedfordshire police authority commissioner and who loves freedom should vote for Kevin Carroll; it could be your last hope to preserve the freedom of speech and the principle of the equality of rights for all people in Britain.
Clearly the establishment elites in Britain are extremely worried that Carroll might win and upset the entrenched culture of accommodation to Islam and sharia; in fact, one of the briefs in Carroll’s case actually stated that this was why he was arrested — because he is running for PCC. The dhimmi elites understand that this could be the beginning of their end. “The police,” said Carroll, “are out to finish us on behalf of the establishment.”
This is a defining moment in British history, as significant as any major turning point. It is in many respects like the Night of the Long Knives, which marked the point of no return from Nazism for Germany. With these outrageous and politically motivated arrests, Britain has entered a dark and dangerous new era. Said Weston: “The full power of the State appears to be concentrating on shutting down any political dissent. This does not really feel like a democratic country anymore.”
Carroll is organizing a demonstration outside Wandsworth prison this coming Saturday morning. All free citizens in Britain should be there. And is there no one is the political establishment in the U.K. who has any decency, integrity, or spine? No one who will stand up against these outrages?

Actions such as this tend to support the view that the police are out of normal control of their actions; ie that people acting against our national interests have usurped the police for their own purposes. It is frightening to think that they can act in this way with impunity. I just hope that Tommy Robinson manages to survive his incarceration. If possible all the names of those involved need to be collected, including all the muslims who are occupying the prison alongside Mr Robinson, for them to eventually be brought to account.
No such thing as bad publicity, I hope, future Commissioner.

Well written. The British state appears rotten to the core. "Sir" Jimmy Saville enjoyed "national treasure" status and was supported by the tax-payer funded BBC. Saville was a "friend" to Royality, Prime-ministers and MPs. Besides being one of the most well known entertainers over 5 decades, it now transpires he was a paedophile and necrophiliac on an epic scale with hundreds and probably thousands of victims. No fewer than seven police investigations into him were aborted for unknown reasons. His "hunting grounds" were largely state institutions including the BBC, hospitals and schools where he raped and abused children of both sexes.
Contrast this to a working class man with unfashionable, non-politically correct views and the Police suddenly become very active and keen. It seems extraordinary that an alleged passport offence should result in someone being remanded in custody for 2 months. If they haven't already done so, I suggest the leaders of the EDL document, film and photograph as much evidence as possible on the misdeeds of the British state and get it on Youtube, Twitter and other forums with copies maintained outside the UK where the British Stasi state cannot destroy it.
I should think that you could drum up support from the UKIP, Nigel Farage. Certainly Mr. Weston has contacts with them....as well as with at least some within the human rights organizations, though many of those are nothing more than communist fronts anymore.
I would appeal within the churches as well...for protest bodies if nothing else. Perhaps the CoE could also put political pressure or at least diplomatic dialogue voicing concern for this movement against the indigenous English.

It is all about voter ground game. Just as in the US, you need to go door to door to ask for support. Then, you need to call again on the phone and ask if the voter needs transportation.
It is all well and good to turn out for a rally but, that doesn't elect people. It is the ground game that matters. Organize your ground game and you will win!
It's very sad. The British always had a streak of savagery, but also a history of putting individual and political rights into law.
British representative government served as a basis for the republican government instituted by the US Constitution; however, British troops in the US during the Revolutionary War sometimes deliberately massacred civilians, and subjected prisoners of war to horrible conditions. George Washington, the US commander-in-chief, was driven to threaten to subject British prisoners to similar conditions, but was too humane to actually reciprocate the British offenses.
Britain seems to have tipped over to the dark side: total denial of both freedom to speak, and the right to run for office. The really funny thing is that NOWHERE in the US press is there a hint that Britain is rapidly becoming a tin-horn totalitarian state.
I truly never thought to see the day when people would be imprisoned in Britain for political speech. I think the silence of the US press is what scares me the most. Despite the best efforts of Hillary, there is NO speech in the US which can be criminalized, and the only censorship currently practiced is self-censorship. How is it that US correspondents can risk their lives covering tribal wars in lawless countries, but do not have the courage to even suggest there is a systematic threat associated with Islam and a political class totally unfamiliar with the real basis of US Constitutional freedoms?
RonaldB in the US you can go to jail, very quickly, for making a film critical of Islam. Or Muslims. This has already happened. It will happen again and again.
Political action by itself is a failure (no I'm NOT talking about violence which is self-defeating as a Montana Militia man). But the standard model of political parties agitating for votes and political platforms FAILS to move society in positive, violence, annihilation avoiding directions. It is time to give up on that approach.
Rather, a "way of life" that provides social support, like the Mormon Church, or Boy Scouts, (the Muslim Brotherhood is a fairly evil mirror of this) with help getting medical care, education, navigating government, personal protection for vulnerable elderly etc, is what is needed. Not coming around every two years asking for votes.
Coming around every DAY and helping, and asking people to sign on to a least common demoninator approach of maximum personal freedom WITH social connections, to preserve the traditional individualistic Western Way of life.
I believe only a massive social force FROM THE GROUND UP will change; by making a great mass of people who are all "Boy Scouts" or "Mormons" able to effect change by simply not tolerating the old ways any longer. And effecting this social movement entirely outside the distant, removed media.
The routine, unnecessary and violent smashing in of peoples doors by police posses should be the subject of a judicial enquiry. It always used to be the case that forced entry by police was only resorted to if entry was refused or resisted. This has changed in recent years but apparently without any debate in parliament or consent by the people.
So much for freedom of speech eh?

Whiskey,
I didn't say the US government didn't wish to suppress criticism of Islam. I said they cannot do it. The video maker was a criminal who violated his probation by distributing the video on the internet. If the US government was interested in projecting the concept of freedom of speech, they would not have pursued charges. That case is the canary in the mine, but the mine is still relatively safe. In other words, the first amendment holds fast, although under pressure by self-interested sociopaths like Hillary Clinton and most likely Obama.
Websites like "Jihad Watch" and "Gates of Vienna" are now safely sponsored in the US because of the first amendment, and the upholding of the Bill of Rights by the Supreme Court. We would be crazy to withdraw from a government which still gives us those protections, and just say "a pox on your house."
I am sympathetic to your idea of a self-sufficient community maintaining a certain individuality, but such a community cannot survive under a government determined to suppress opposition or alternative ways of thinking. In other words, your advocacy of a relatively monolithic community withdrawing from political involvement is a prescription for total failure and disaster.
We need to reform the government more towards the original concept of the Constitution: emphasis on states rights, maintenance of separation of powers, and above all, the unconstitutional fiddling with elections and political divisions for the goal of "diversity".
In other words, like it or not, the only way to maintain our freedoms is to participate heavily in our political process, maintaining a clear vision of the real purpose of a government, as specified in the Declaration of Independence and the original US Constitution.

This article and the reader comments below it are a wonderful example of why I find the Gates of Vienna web site so valuable. Its value stands out all the more starkly against the chilling events reported in this article. Heartfelt thanks to all involved.
