Gerhard Schindler, the head of German state intelligence, says that the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria is on its last legs. According to Mr. Schindler, battle casualties, desertions, and defections have eroded the fighting capabilities of the Syrian army to the point where it is only a matter of time before the regime falls.
In other news, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate. Unlike the man at the top of the ticket, some of Mr. Ryan’s political views may be accurately described as conservative.
