Re: Crew shakeup story.

Good job on story about resignation of Understeward For Furniture Positioning Andrew Card and replacement with former Assistant Silverware Steward Joshua Bolten. Running on page one.

Liked emphasis on declining popularity of Captain as reflected by passenger polls on arrangement of deck chairs.

But side-story about iceberg had to be cut -- readers have no interest. Unless -- work an angle that appearance of iceberg is Captain's fault?

Or maybe iceberg is actually myth put out by senior members of crew to cover up incompetence...?

Look forward to next dispatch.

I just searched for your story and couldn't find it.

Do you have a link? Otherwise, I can't update this.

Arrgh - paste URLS as links or the baron will set his hounds on you.

Nice names in that post, Baron. Greek/British/Irish in weird combinations?

It'd be nice if there was a template right on the "Post a comment" page.

I can't show you here. because if I type a link it would display as a link, not as the HTML code.

Try this.

You might also right click over this page and choose "view source" to see what it "really" looks like

Wally B --

I presume you were being facetious? I mean, since there is a template for an HTML link on the TOP OF EVERY COMMENT PAGE?

Maybe we should bold it, or put up flashing lights? Anyway, the BBC URL wasn't long so --it fits exactly -- so it didn't mess up the page. Those long ones are something; send the posts all the way south so the page looks blank till you scroll down a mile or so.

My darling spouse --

Ol' Wally means the window where you type the comments, the one I'm working in now. Unfortunately, my changes to the template don't affect that.

Note to self: Ask Blogger for money back.

Madame D - if there is a template on this page, I am asking my optometrist for my money back. I have seen the Baron's template once or twice, but it comes and goes, like Brigadoon.

The bbc link fit on your screen perfectly (although I found it was actually truncated) but you probably don't have your screen resolution set to "blind as a bat" level like the ol' Baron usually does.

Wally B, darling:

If you open the permanent link at the bottom of each post, it reveals any links, plus all the current comments.

First is the link site, followed by the number of current comments, and under that is an HTML template for setting up hyperlinks in the comments page. It says this:

To add a link in a comment, use this format:
My Title

One can copy this template, then scroll to the bottom of the page, hit the comments link, and bring up the blank box. Paste the template in the box and just put in the URL and a name. Even I, the original HTML illiterate, can manage this.

Unfortunately, that's the best you can do with blooger -- can't leave directions on the actual comments page itself.

Wally Ballou said...

I know that, D dohlink, but when somebody wants to leave a comment, they don't click on "permanent link" - how would they know to? IN fact I almost never click on it. By the way, look at your comment - it of course intepreted your pasted template as HTML, hence a (bad) link. Better to light a single candle (and point someone to w3schools.com) than to curse that dam darkness.

Now if only the comment editor allowed the HTML "pre" tag - but it doesn't - I just checked.

Too funny, Baron!

I hate to say it, but President Bush appears to be headed towards approval ratings in the low 30's if he keeps this stuff up.

Did you hear him on immigration today?

"You can't enforce the borders without a guest worker program.."

Stirring stuff.

No, I've been avoiding the immigration thing. The way it's being handled (by the administration, and both parties in Congress) makes me sick.
