Nazi of the Week

The subversion of the animal kingdom by the forces of neo-fascism continues at a relentless pace, and the latest group to fall prey to the lure of Nazi ideology is the pachyderm community.

As a matter of interest, this is not a new instance of elephant fascism, but a revival: one of the little-known facts about the Nazi period in Germany is that most elephants were eager supporters of the Third Reich. The participation of elephants in the neo-Nazi movement is a sign that the growth of right-wing influence in Europe has spread once again to the pachyderms.

The photo below shows a monument to an unknown soldier from Die Dänischen Elefanten-Korps, which was created by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring in 1940 and mobilized for service throughout Northern Europe:

Nazi Carlsberg elephant

This particular elephant memorializes the brigade of the Danish Elephant Corps that was deployed to guard the entrance to the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen during the Nazi occupation.

The Germans were anxious to prevent members of the Danish Resistance from breaking into the brewery and seizing strategic supplies of beer, which might well have crippled the Axis war effort.

In recent years, with the Nazi revival accelerating all across Europe, a stone monument dedicated to the Unknown Elephant was erected by fascist sympathizers at the very same location where so many elephants did valiant service for the Reich.

Yes, this statue really does stand at the Elephant Gate (entrance) of the Carlsberg Brewery, Copenhagen. Architect: Vilhelm Dahlerup, 1901.

Hat tip: Steen.

Seabear, you missed something:

"Hvornår smager Tuborg bedst?"

Some solid support those elephants provide... The swastika, BTW, probably stems from India where it has been used through millenia. Buddhist use it too, I have seen, though they're a bit inconsistent in which way it turns.

That's because the way it turns was irrelevant. The myth that "old" swastika is turning one way to symbolise peace and that the nazi swastika is turning the other way to symbolise war is, to put it mildly, a bit silly. As you've hinted, Vedic temples in India are covered in swastika that turn in both directions. In fact there are ancient swastika engraved all over europe that turn in both directions.

This article is completely false. The elephants were put up by Carlsberg himself. They were a symbol of the brewery and prosperity. They were not put up by the Nazi party.

This post is old. It was satire. It was a comic takedown of Charles Johnson at LGF, who found Nazis everywhere, and "proved" his case with photos.

When this was first posted, people understood the context, but it's been so long, and LGF has descended so much farther, that it doesn't make as much sense anymore.
