The Better Lenin

Our Canadian correspondent Rembrandt Clancy returns with a reminder (not necessary for most of our regular readers) that National Socialism was a left-wing ideology.

For his report he has translated and subtitled a video, and includes descriptive excerpts from Politically Incorrect (PI) which announce the resurrection of the famous White Rose resistance movement of 1942-43.

Video: The White Rose (Weiße Rose) Resurrected
Marc Doll — “National Socialism, a Movement of the Left”

by Rembrandt Clancy

The following video and excerpts are from Politically Incorrect . They announce the resurrection of the new White Rose exactly on 20 July, “…the 68th anniversary of the Stauffenberg assassination attempt on Hitler”.

The contributors, Mark Doll and Michael Stürzenberger, are both members of Die Freiheit, a civil liberties party (Bürgerrechtspartei) in Germany which advocates direct democracy. Marc Doll, who is the speaker in the video below, is also Federal Vice Chairman and founding member of the party.

Michael Stürzenberger is also a regular staff writer for Politically Incorrect. Their description of the founding of the new White Rose is translated from the German:

“The White rose, as is well known, was a resistance movement in the Third Reich. From 1942, at the risk of death, it stood for a free, and what most people do not know, a patriotic Germany. Unfortunately, these courageous people would have been necessary at least ten years earlier in order to awaken the citizens and avoid a catastrophe. But this mistake ought not to occur again.”

[…]

(Von Marc Doll & Michael Stürzenberger)

“For under the cloak of anti-fascism the thought structures and behaviours [of the Third Reich] are openly revealed again today. What earlier was the brown SA, is today the black Block. They practiced, and practice once again violence against anyone who is categorised by them as a political opponent. They strove, and strive again to eliminate the free-democratic, fundamental order so as to replace it with a socialist dictatorship. They disseminate open terror against their fellow man and their country.

Ignored almost completely or even trivialised by the media, courted by some politicians and supported by the state with taxes in order to proceed against dissidents, left-wing extremists constitute at the state-level today one of the major dangers for democracy and the constitutional state. At the individual level they are the major criminal elements opposed to freedom of speech and bodily integrity. It is no wonder that in the current report on the defence of the constitution (Verfassungsschutzbericht), next to the warning against the Salafists, an increase in violent acts by left-wing extremists of over 25% is registered.”

In evidence for this last statistic Doll and Stürzenberger provide a link to Welt Online which provides a summary of the above-mentioned official report, the relevant part of which reads as follows:

“In the Left spectrum there were 8687 criminal acts (last year 6898), an increase of 25.9%. In spite of these numbers Friedrich [the CDU Interior Minister] sees in radical Islam the greatest danger for domestic security — and the greatest challenge for the future head of the Domestic Intelligence Agency (Verfassungsschutzchef), Hans-Georg Maaßen.”

Doll and Stürzenberger continue:

On 22 February 1943 Sophie Scholl was beheaded by the National Socialists after she had first been condemned to death by the former Communist and Bolshevist Commissar, Judge Roland Freisler, in an unlawful, summary trial. Her best friend at the time was Susanne Zeller who managed to deceive Freisler, whereby she luckily escaped, leniently, with five months’ imprisonment.”

[…]

“Together with eight patriotic activists, on 7 July in Stuttgart Susanne Zeller-Hirzel reactivated the White Rose. She appealed to all democratic citizens of Germany to join in resistance against the new Fascism and its political supporters. You will learn more about the structure and the modus operandi of the White Rose in the coming days.

The new White Rose conveys two principal messages:

1. National Socialism was a left-wing movement.
2. The Nazis are back again, they call themselves ‘Antifa’ [Antifascists].

The commonalities are not to be denied: different opinions are today, as formerly, mercilessly suppressed and on the streets they are frequently combated through the use of violence. Formerly it was the SA-goon squads, today it is the black-masked, autonomist “anti”-Fascist bands, which throw stones and Molotov cocktails, burn cars, destroy shop windows and threaten those who think differently.

Marc Doll, who initiated the reactivation of the White Rose, had to gather distressing experiences in Berlin with these left-extreme groups. They attached inflammatory posters in front of his house, called for his murder and libelled him in the utmost vile manner.

Leftist terror against opinion also runs throughout the media, for there too in many ways, bodies of conservative citizens are defamed as “extremists.” By means of character assassination, the professional existence of people who are critical has to be destroyed. The sniffing out of people’s convictions makes its presence felt once more in Germany as it did with the National Socialists in the Third Reich and the International Socialists in the German Democratic Republic. Views opposing those of the leftist mainstream are criminalized. Citizens with unwelcome opinions are thrown out of public meetings using the invocation of “householder’s rights” and even with deployment of the police, as happened recently in the Munich DGB-Haus”.

“Marc Doll speaks in this video to the motives for the resistance of the new White Rose: The 1968ers generation, who now sit in many focal points of power in Germany, have been carrying out successfully the march through the institutions. The resistance against the left movement will be supported by the White Rose. It is an honour for us, together with Susanne Zeller-Hirzel in this famous movement, to conduct a new and important battle.

Susanne, with her courage, her determination and her will, is a model. Many people can take a leaf from her book, for she has also recognized that a great deal is wrong in Germany, and now countermeasures have to be taken.”

The New English Review provides an interesting interview with Susanne Zeller-Hirzel translated into English from the German. In it she comments on the similarity and differences between the Nazi period and today. She also remarks on Islamisation, how university professors in the Nazi period compare with the Multiculturalists in the universities today, and what factors, such as “general indifference to religious matters” make it so difficult for the population to awaken to the current danger.

On the question that National Socialism as a movement of the Left, others besides Doll have made the same argument. More specifically, Doll mentions in the video that Goebbels named Hitler the “better Lenin” (den besseren Lenin). There is a very small article buried in the New York Times of 1925 which reports that Goebbels made just such a claim, and also said that the difference between National Socialism and Communism was slight. The article also allows a glimpse into the tendency to “faction war” characteristic of Socialism. Here is the text of that article:

New York Times, November 28, 1925, p.4.:

Hitlerite Riot in Berlin

Beer Glasses Fly when Speaker compares Hitler with Lenin

Copyright. 1925 by The New York Times Company.
By Wireless to THE NEW YORK TIMES

BERLIN. Nov. 27. — The National Socialist-Labor Party, of which Adolf Hitler is a patron and father, persists in believing Lenin and Hitler can be compared or contrasted in a party meeting. Two weeks ago an attempted discussion of this subject led to one death, sixty injuries and $5,000 damages to beer glasses, tables, chairs, windows and chandeliers in Chemnitz. Last night, Dr. Göbells tried the experiment in Berlin and only police intervention prevented a repetition of the Chemnitz affair.

On the speaker’s assertion that Lenin was the greatest man, second only to Hitler, and that the difference between communism and the Hitler faith was very slight, a faction war opened with whizzing beer glasses. When this sort of ammunition was exhausted a free fight in which fists and knives played important roles was indulged in. Later a gang marched to the offices of the socialist paper Vorwärts and smashed plate-glass windows. Police made nineteen arrests [emphasis not in the original].

Readers can find the original copy of this article fully displayed in the first excerpt of “The Soviet Story”. The remaining content of that video is germane to this content as well.

Concise, historically accurate, and hopefully a rational stake in the rotten heart of the mythical "anti-fascists" -who are fascists in all but (monstrously / cynically re-branded) name.

The new White Rose versus the same old Shadowy Tyranny.

The article needs a lot of editing. It's rather confusing.

So the real danger is from modern German Nazis called the anti-fas?

Isn't that a bit silly? I mean the Germans have thoroughly suppressed the Nazi movement. And the Anti-fas have been viewed as a Leftist goon squad to terrorize those who stand up to them.

Then you have the modern White Rose which seems to be a Leftist goon squad dedicated to fighting the modern Nazis who aren't Nazis but fellow Leftists.

Remember Matthew 7:15-20. By their fruits you will know them.

The way people throw around the term "Nazi" nowadays is quite silly. They are not making any real comparison, they want only to use the term as a way to prevent dissenting voices from being heard.

Used in that context, all the word means is "You are someone who refuses to drink the Kool-Aid".

These people may claim to be "anti-facists" and so forth, but their actions resemble those of the Nazis in several significant ways. For example, consider their desire to implement a policy of Gleichschaltung far and wide - everyone must be brought into line, no matter what.

If one reads the literature on the Third Reich, the parallels with today's society are quite striking. The key is not to listen to what these radical left wing people say - look at what they do. And compare what they are actually doing (not what they say they are doing - they'll lie to you all day and all night) to what the Nazis did. By their fruits you will know them.

By the way, whenever someone from the left accuses someone in the CJ movement of being a Nazi, perhaps it might be worth stopping right there and saying: Well let's consider your actions and compare them to what the Nazis did - since you want to discuss the Nazis.

Cue discussion of the many similarities between what they are doing and what the Nazis did.

Followed by a discussion on the similarities between what Hans and Sophie Scholl and the other members of the White Rose did, and what the people in the CJ movement are doing.

Cut the ground out from under them, and aim their own fiery dart right back at them.

It's also worth noting that a lot of the people who supported Hitler did so because they feared the alternative - the far left!

Left and right are too ambiguous terms to form the basis of a serious discussion on, in my humble opinion.

Fascism (and nazism) is reactionary, while that which we refer to as leftism is radical.

If you're looking to place nazism and leftism in the same same political/philosophical "box," you do it not by using overly simplified dichotomies such as left and right, but by identifying the "coin" from which both are made. That coin is tyranny, and leftism and fascism are both sides to it. They're superficially different, but when it comes down to business, they both get you the same results; pain and suffering, death, and no personal freedom what so ever.

An interesting question is why so many leftists and neonazis convert to Islam. The answer, if you ask me, is that while Islam is totally unambiguous in its goals, it is very much the opposite in religious terms. The converts can focus on the bits that are common ground, and take it from there.

The common ground box, tyranny, is regularly ticked by Islam. Where ever Islam rears its head, pain, suffering, death, and the extinction of individual rights and freedoms, is sure to follow, which both fascists and nazis like.

The reactionary box, in which Islam abhors cultural and civilisational progress, is perpetually ticked for the fascists.

The radical box, in which Islam strives to jihad its way to dominance, through both violence and stealth, is ticked for the leftists.

This film was made in 2008..and only now the russian and latvian spoken fragments are being translated and subtitled. Has anybody seen it on television? Read about it in the papers?
It is absolutely horrendous, things are even worse than we thought they were..Seems one has to discover ever more evil and beastlyness.
Why the hell have the allies given Stalin what he wanted in eastern Europe? Why have they abandoned these poor people to another monster?
Imagine being freed from the nazi´s and having the communists snuff out your lights for another fifty years!
Was it because we in the west were so very charmed by socialism too? That the powers that be did not want to turn their sheeple against the brave new world they themselves and their aunt had been so enamored with?

´We´ even gave poor russian fugitives up to the sowjets, people who had fled and who were prisoners of war in the west: we put them on a train and sent them back, knowing full well that they would either be shot directly or sent to the gulag! Why?

one can read the same argument of nazism being a left wing ideology in the books of erik von kuehnelt leddihn. also a blogger named john ray (google john ray tripod) makes the same case. in economic terms one can also read hayek, von mises. one will then learn nazism and fascism where very much based on left wing politics, it had a socialized/centralized economy and it shared with left wing movements the disdain for modern world. another name comes to mind eric voegelin who saw revolutionary movements (fascism and nazism were not reactionary but saw themselves as revolutionary, since they were both opposed to monarchism, catholicism -which they only tolerated for gaining support from the people-, free market capitalism) as a new incarnation of the ancient gnosticism. more or less the same theory is written about by erik von kuehnelt leddihn, who saw marx and hitler as successors of the french revolution and the french revolution as the succession of gnostic/neopagan movements like the hussites, saint simon etc. the reason why neonazis and leftists feel support for islam but not christianity, might be found in the writings of voegelin, who saw these totalitarian movements as the outcome of the minds of some individuals who in some way felt alienated and thus sought an escape in the establishment of their philosophy. one could note that both christianity and free market capitalism (libertarianism) stress self reliance, self government, free choice and facing the consequences of exercising that free chocie. in islam, socialism, nazism,.. the welfare is promised to be taken care of, there is an alien element defined as evil (dar al harb, the jews, the evil capitalists) which should be removed so that the totalitarian philosophy which will return all things to how it should be, can be manifested. voegelin saw this as a 'will' to try to manifest the eschaton, christianity and libertarianism say bluntly paradise is not for this world. it's self reliance, and individual autonomy in a society which still manages to share some values, namely free cooperation, instead of the coercion one reads about in marx communist manifesto (abolish private property) hitler and mussolini's doctrine and the quran (for instance verse 9:29).

Brava is fully correct. For the vast majority of you who have spent little to no time on Germany and European history (both in English and in original German language documents), this article may look believable. Fact is it is garbage.

Yes, there were people from the Left among the Nazis. There were people from Left, Right, and Center. Yes, Hitler and his followers went to some Left rallies; but it was to either beat some Leftist a_s or to do information gathering. Read Mein Kampf and read Hitler's other words. You bet, he used words at times to try to attract the Left and to show similarities that would attract people from the Left. He did so, however, to attract people. Not because he liked the Left in any way. Instead, he HATED the Left. Read his writings and words and you will understand that quite clearly.

The proof of this also exists in history we now look back upon: Hitler spent World War II putting Communists, Social Democrats, and Leftists in Concentration Camps - and killing them EN MASSE. Also, if they were so similar and came from the same fabric, one would be able to show where EN MASSE and FORMALLY, the Left (Communists and Social Democrats) actually merged with the National Socialists. Fact is, it never happened. There's a reason. They spent the war fighting each other to the death.

The above article being posted on the Gates of Vienna does little to offer credibility to the Gates of Vienna, which otherwise has great information. In fact this type of pseudo-history and pseudo-intellectualism makes the Gates of Vienna look like a gathering place for quacks. Mr. Rembrandt needs some work on his knowledge of actual history and the guy in the video is a joker - who either has either willfully forgotten history and Hitler's own many words and deeds or he's someone who has some other agenda and goals. Whatever they are, his attempts and their acceptance at all by people on this website does little to offer any credibility to we in the Counter-Jihad Movement. I'm definitely no Leftist, but if you believe any of the above, I have some swamp land in Florida that might interest you....

As Brava points out, throwing around terms like "Right" and "Left" is idiotic. They both have Totalitarianism in common - but they are not the same. Any idiot who believes that is the case or who wants to rewrite history today due to people's general lack of knowledge of what happened 70-100 years ago, needs a check-up. If you want to call the Left (or the Right) bad names, do so. But don't create confusion and false histories where they don't exist. Other than finding value in connecting to the working classes and using propaganda and dictatorship, Hitler and the National Socialists had little in common with the so-called "Left". That piece of history and Hitler's own words and actions were and are today unambiguous.
