Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/19/2012

Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/19/2012In the year or so since the “Arab Spring” began, Jordan has lost an estimated $1 billion in revenues from tourism. The Hashemite Kingdom has had to retool parts of its economy, including the airlines and the hotel industry, to take into account the decline in tourism-related demand.

In other news, Germany is now the world’s third-largest arms exporter, after the USA and Russia. Much of the market for arms comes from Asia.

Meanwhile, Islamic authorities in Indonesia have ordered Muslims who purchased tickets to a Lady Gaga concert to return them. They say that the pop star’s dress and antics are un-Islamic, and are designed to undermine the morality of Indonesian Muslims.

"In other news, Germany is now the world’s third-largest arms exporter" that's not exactly news. people know what's good, or would you like to go to war with *quality* chinese rifles? Third world submarines vs state of the art german boats? Just sold number six to the Israelis, cheerio.

All true (and amusing). I think the "news" is that the Germans have moved ahead of the British and/or the French. But I'm not certain; I don't follow the global arms market statistics very closely.
