Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/14/2012The Parti Quebecois, the Quebec separatist party, has come out strongly against halal slaughter, saying that it not only violates the rights of animals, but is contrary to the basic values of Quebec. Other nationalist parties in Quebec are also joining in the chorus against halal meat.

In other news, the Irish media say that the referendum on the new EU fiscal treaty will be held in late May of this year.

The last time I was in New York City I noticed that the sidwalk food stands all had a sign saying that the meat was halal; every single one that I saw. I bet that more than 90% of the public does not know what that means.
