Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/22/2011

Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/22/2011German Chancellor Angela Merkel says that Eurozone member states that do not stay within budgetary rules will face a partial loss of national sovereignty. Yet any country that submits to the EU’s budgetary restrictions has already lost part of its national sovereignty. That’s some catch, that Catch-22!

In other news, the Emirate of Qatar has decided to allow the sale of pork, as it already allows the sale of alcohol, to non-Muslim foreigners holding a license for the purchase of such haram products. In the few days since pork products went on sale, the lone retailer selling them has almost sold out.

I wish the European countries luck as they pull out from the iron grasp of the European Union.

It has always been the subsidy from Germany that provided the incentive for free-spending profligates like Greece and Portugal to maintain their membership in a dysfunctional union. The laws of economics cannot be broken, but can be delayed, as the efficient economies, such as Germany, are drained to maintain a rickety house of cards.

I expect to lose a good portion of my savings when it becomes obvious there is no way for the countries in the EU to repay the bonds they have created out of thin air. But, the positive aspect will be that western, civilized countries will have another shot at protecting their borders and their culture.

Turkey may not be joining but it is given Billions in help to meet "joining EU goals" - i.e. for trying to make progress in areas where it is still far off the EU mean.

Billions of euros per yesr.
