Wanted: Muslims!

The town of Saguenay in Quebec doesn’t have any Muslim citizens, so its mayor is proactively looking for some. He wants the town to construct a mosque — “If we build it, they will come.”

Here’s a report from Poste de veille, as translated by Bear and posted at Vlad Tepes. I’ve edited the text for punctuation, typos, and clarity:

Quebec: The mayor of a village without any Muslims wants to build a mosque

At a time where the rights tribunal forbids the recitation of prayers before the beginning of sessions in the city of Saguenay, (Quebec) Mayor Gendron of the small municipality of Huntingdon offers land and buildings for the construction of a mosque and madrassa.

Poor mayor Gendron. The groups that have the funds to build mosques are very likely to be linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and to be financed by petrodollars. This mayor who wants to repopulate his municipality risks having the one already established run away if in the village a branch of the Islamic league shows up.

Huntingdon wants its mosque. According to what Rue Frontenac has learned, the mayor Stephan Gendron has been searching for many months for a promoter or an Islamic group that will agree to build “a place of cult” in the small city of upper St. Laurent, which has no Muslim citizens. The municipality of 2,600 citizens (it was 2,900 20 years ago) has thrown itself into a business that the mayor qualifies as “a great seduction”. His target: Families, the elderly, and curiously, Muslims. To attract the latter the mayor is using many methods. Even if Huntingdon contains no Muslim citizens, he hopes for the mosque to be on his territory soon and has already made some steps towards that. “I haven’t had an official meeting, but I am talking to some people.”

Stephan Gendron does not stop there. On top of a place to pray he hopes to build a college or an Islamic cultural centre. “I already have the land available” he says, “and if they do not want to build new, I have vacant buildings at their disposal”. He has however no employment to offer his new cohabitants. “The migration around religion is one of the models that works the best,” believes the mayor. “It’s so difficult to attract people to the region that you must be creative.”

Within a week, Huntingdon will have in place a new online website translated in English, Arabic and Spanish, which is extremely rare and maybe even unique for a town of this size. Even Montreal does not go as far on the web. “We are also going to be organizing an open house during the spring,” promises Stephan Gendron.

Forget the mosque and madrassa. It seems to me that the first institution that Huntingdon needs, and badly, is an insane asylum into which Mayor Gendron should be permanently committed.

What does one expect from the land of Little Mosque on the Prairie...?

Herperado, it would please me greatly if you did not raise that national embarrassment on this forum again. Thank you.

Perhaps the mayor can dig up Albert Speer as architect of the project and rename his municipality Hell's Waiting Room?

muzbots see unemployment as a feature.
If I was a local farmer there, I'd be planting pigs as though my life depended on it - fast and furious 'cos it WOULD depend on it.
I would neglect all forms of fencing.

They could build an English school, (that would attract many of the English that are NOT permitted to educate their children in that language)but according to Quebec sentiment and laws that would be considered cultural suicide. Go figure.

The mayor has no employment to offer them, as though Muslims would seek it.
What adds insult to injury is that Quebec sucks 12 billion out of the more sensible provinces every year to subsidize its losing socialist ways. So the French mayor of little brain is buying his Muslims with money robbed from English Canadians. Like all socialists, he doesn't do his homework and decides to import the one culture that is a net drain on the public purse and destructive of person and property wherever they go in sufficient numbers. Someone so stupid and provincial that he can't learn even from his fellow socialists' mistakes, you know, his big brothers in France is typical of politicians from the lowest rung to the highest. They don't read. They don't learn. They lack ability to think things through to their logical conclusion. They simply act. This fool is even out of step with the rest of his province, where the French are largely xenophobic against all non-French speakers and have raised banning the veil (with their usual slavish following of Mother France). So this lame mayor-sheep is lagging back to when France thought it was a great idea to import Muslims...

You're confusing two different Quebec towns. Saguenay is up north in the Lac-Saint-Jean district, Huntingdon is south-west of Montreal, near the US border. Huntingdon's mayor, Stéphane Gendron, the guy who wants to build a mosque, is also a media personality known for shooting his mouth off. He's been quoted as saying that "Israelis are modern-day Nazis". Re translation: the expression you want is not "a place of cult" but rather "a place of worship".
