Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/9/2010

Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/9/2010Real estate sales in North Texas went into freefall last month, down 29% from the same period last year. The precipitous decline is attributed at least in part to the end of the federal government’s tax credit program for new mortgages.

In other news, the bridegroom at a Turkish wedding celebrated his marriage in the customary way: he shot off an AK-47, supposedly into the air. Unfortunately, the young man was somewhat lacking in skill with the weapon, and managed to shoot a number of wedding guests, killing his own father and two of his aunts.

Referring to this incident, Vlad wins the prize for the bon mot of the day: “Darwin and Kalashnikov: making the world a safe place from Morons.”
