Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/16/2010

Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/16/2010A crate containing eleven bottles of hundred-year old Scotch whiskey has been discovered in Antarctica. It had been encased in ice for a century, stored under the floorboards of a hut built by the famous explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. The Antarctic temperatures were cold enough to preserve the whiskey, but not cold enough to freeze it.

Unfortunately, no one will be allowed to taste this treasure trove of uisge beatha. Scientists may take some samples by inserting a needle through the cork, but no bottle will be opened for potation. You’d think they could spare one measly bottle for a modest celebration somewhere north of Hadrian’s wall, but noooo! In fact, leaving all of this historic whiskey undrunk ought to be a criminal offense under Scottish law.

In other news, the leader of Hamas insists that the Ground Zero mosque must be built. However, the word from several news sources is that the developers of the Cordoba initiative have backed off, and now plan build the mosque in another location. The news came in too late for tonight’s feed, but there should be several items about it available by tomorrow night.

If Hamas says it must be built, then wherever it is built, it should be the object of deep suspicion.
