Spoutin’ Carbon All Over Yur Earth Day

Air Force One — Earth Day

New York City Aviation talks about the very un-green, carbon-spewing plans of America’s leadership for Earth Day:

On a day when many Americans will be reflecting upon how they can reduce their impact on the environment, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will board separate jets in Washington on Earth Day morning to fly 250 miles up the east coast to New York, where they will land at separate airports to attend separate events within a few miles of each other.

The parallel visits of Air Force One (a 747/VC-25 aircraft) and Air Force Two (a 757/C-32A aircraft) will delay dozens, if not hundreds of commercial flights at Kennedy and LaGuardia and other nearby airports as no-fly zones are implemented. Jets will be forced to circle and burn more fuel as they wait for the VIPs to come and go. Their security contingents consisting of dozens of cars, SUVs and helicopters will burn even more. Throw in thousands of commuters’ cars and delivery trucks sitting idle in traffic as law enforcement closes large swaths of the city and you have yourself a very Earth-unfriendly day.

He has a disclaimer about his complaint:
- - - - - - - - -
This is a non-partisan post which I would be writing no matter who were in office. I’ve been known to complain when ANY president makes frivolous trips to New York, simply because it disrupts so many people and it is extraordinarily expensive. For both men to visit on the same day, especially a day of supposed environmental friendliness, is extraordinarily thoughtless, to put it mildly.
And what, you ask, will the Dauphin be doing in New York City? A worthy question, which NYC Aviation answers, bitterly:

Obama will be making a speech about new banking and finance regulations, a worthy subject, to be sure. Federal Hall on Wall Street, the site of George Washington’s first inauguration which stares directly at the doors of the New York Stock Exchange, would be the ideal location for this speech, but Obama will deliver it from…an art and engineering school? Any symbolism of delivering the speech in NYC is lost. He may as well save everyone the effort and talk to the nation from the Oval Office.
I’m not sure, but Obama may be the most clueless president since Ulysses Grant:

  • He goes off to play golf on the day of Poland’s mourning. No televised speech of condolence.
  • He has the president of Goldman Sachs repeatedly visiting the White House while GS is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • He promises transparency in his administration but continues to maintain his opaque, dismissive attitude.
Long after the fumes of his Earth Day fuel wastage have faded, his obduracy regarding Goldman Sachs (from whose PAC Obama received almost a million dollars that he has no intention of returning) will still be waiting for answers:

Lawrence Jacobs, a University of Minnesota political scientist, said that “almost everything that the White House has done has been haunted by the personnel and the money of Goldman . . . as well as the suspicion that the White House, particularly early on, was pulling its punches out of deference to Goldman and its war chest.
Heck, the White House -- i.e., the Dauphin -- will continue to do as he damn well pleases because there is no one to reign him in. Our national media are limp and impotent.

And after Smolensk, they have a ready-made excuse... watch out for more delegations of eco-activists just too important to fly in one plane.

I must say, Green Infidel, that you have the makings of a good bumper sticker here.

"2 Important 2 Ride With Others"

"2 Important 2 Take The Train"

"2 Important to Share With U"

et & cetera...hope people can come up with better ones.

Should any further evidence be required as to just how insincere these faux environmentalists really are, consider the following track record:

The 2002 UN World Summit on Sustainable Development

Never was this inversion as pronounced as at the recent Earth Summit in Johannesburg where thousands of activists and politicians gathered to bow down to the earth which, they hope, will reward them for their high-profile slavering. George W. Bush, God bless him, refused to attend. But President Robert Mugabe, who has recently pushed his country, Zimbabwe, into famine (another Ethiopia in the making), was front and centre for the champagne and lobster fest aimed at ending world hunger.

Indeed, the head chef of the swank hotel hosting the Summit pilgrims boasted of the mountains of food laid on for the event. "Money is no object," said Desmond Morgan, head chef of Johannesburg's five-star Michelangelo Hotel, where world leaders and other VIP delegates stayed for the 'save the planet' gathering. Morgan told how he had stocked up an extraordinary array of delicacies and fine wines--including 5,000 oysters, 1,000 lbs of lobster, buckets of caviar and pate d foie gras, 4,400 lbs of filet steak and chicken breasts--to insure his guests would want for nothing.

The $50-million summit--aimed at combating hunger, poverty and pollution--was centered around Sandton, the most exclusive suburb in all of Africa, with streets lined with expensive restaurants, gated villas and gleaming shopping malls.

… During the week … 80,000 bottles of mineral water were drunk, while an estimated 6,000 African children were dying daily from diseases caused by contaminated water.

How about the United Nations Climate Change Conference

Here's an amazingly inconvenient truth: the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference is being held at the Bali International Convention Centre, "a truly beautiful tropical island paradise...home to the island's most luxurious hotel and resort."

… Maybe more important, press representatives are almost guaranteed to ignore the amount of carbon dioxide needlessly expelled by all the plane flights that might not have occurred if the meeting was held at UN headquarters in New York ...
[emphasis added]

Bali, half way around the world from where these bureaucratic wankers spend their working hours farting through silk. Bali, whose tiny Ngurah Rai International Airport is so small that:

... the large number of additional private charter flights expected in Bali during the UN Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC) December 3-15, 2007, will exceed the carrying capacity of apron areas. To meet the added demand for aircraft storage officials are allocating "parking space" at other airports in Indonesia.

The … 3 parking areas can only accommodate 15 planes, which means that some of the jets used by VIP delegations will only be allowed to disembark and embark their planes in Bali with parking provided at airports in Surabaya, Lombok, Jakarta and Makassar.

Or this monumental insult to all sane beings:

ForeignAid Money Spent on $23 Million Art Ceiling at U.N. Human Rights Council

The U.N. Human Rights Council, frequently accused of coddling some of the world's most repressive governments, threw itself a party in Geneva Tuesday that featured the unveiling of a $23 million mural paid for in part with foreign aid funds.

Yes, you read that right. 23,000,000 DOLLARS spent on decorating a ceiling at the UN's Geneva-based headquarters.

"In Spain there's a controversy because they took money out of the foreign aid budget — took money from starving children in Africa — and spent it on colorful stalactites," said Hillel Neuer, executive director of U.N. Watch. [emphasis added]

Dymphna -- is there a link to the NYC Aviation story?

Papa --

Dymphna's not feeling well, and went to bed, but I took a look at the HTML on the post. She evidently included the link, but left it without any link text, so it couldn't be found.

I adjusted it to include text, so refresh your page to see the clickable link.
