It's unfortunate there is a third candidate. It will just make Kant win again.

You are MUCH too kind, Baron.

I went to the same school as S.K., but thats about it. Thanks anyway.

Hm. I thought Niels Bohr was the Greatest Dane. He even helped save a lot of Jews from Hitler, using his fame as protection to do so.

Talking of schools, I went to the same one as Ole Rømer and N. F. S. Grundtvig. Have some great examples to live up to...

Stellan Skarsgård once pushed himself before me in a queue to a public phone.

CS, I thought you had more going for you..?

The Bidinotto link did not work for me. It only gave a skeleton remnant of the Bidinotto blog.

The journalspace server was wiped out some months ago, and Bidinotto didn't re-establish his blog. But he sent me another link which I will use instead in future -- RobertTheWriter.com.

Henrik,

Ha ha! No, that was the best I could come up with. But it's all true.

Very fast guy by the way. Just a second of inattention and he had grabbed the phone. I'm sure there is an example for me there.

The lesson is, get a mobile phone.

If I had had a mobile phone I wouldn't have had this memorable encounter with Stellan Skarsgård. And moreover, it all happened back in the rural '80s.

Who is Stellan Skarsgård, anyway?

Conservative Swede said...

An actor which Swedes imagine to be internationally known.

In the to-drool-over-handsome-Danes category:

Bjorn Lomborg

I was a real Kierkegaard fan in my youth. But he was so severe I always thought of him as Swedish.

Karl Jaspers was another favorite, as was Gabriel Marcel.

So, the Danish, the German and the French existentialists, though all of them would have rejected that title.

He has played in some international pictures but are probably not as famous as many swedes themselves think. Ok, he was Will Turners dad in the Pirates of th Caribean-sequels, the bad guy in King Arthur and played a younger Father Merrin in the prequel to The Exorcist but aside from that, I doubt that many outside of Sweden has any clue about who he is.

No they will think they saw Liam Neeson.

PS. Picture of women waiting for Bjorn Lomborg wearing protection against drooling.

If there is any contemporary actor/moviestar of swedish origin who actually will be recognized, then I think it would be Max von Sydow. After all, he has played chess with the grim reaper (a scene that has been referred to and parodied a dozen times), Jesus Christ, the one and original Father Merrin, Emperor Ming and many other roles in his life and still at the age of 80 are active as actor. Probably even Peter Stormare is more recognized abroad than Skarsgård.
