As noted in Martin Gardiner's book on codbreaking, the Chicago Tribune (another security-undermining media outlet) shortly after the U.S. military success at the Battle of Midway, published the info that that we had broken the Japanese "purple" naval code.

Luckily the Japanese didn't believe it and continued using the same code.

Sedition and folly are not restricted to one rag.
