Put in Your Earplugs, Put on Your Eyeshades…

…you know where to put the cork.

Conservative Swede has demonstrated at length how thoroughly Western culture is shackled by PC thinking. It’s not just a leftist or liberal phenomenon; it cuts across the political spectrum. Most conservatives are just as hobbled by it as is the most ardent enthusiast of Multiculturalism. It has become a kind of unconscious group-think, shared by almost everyone in the culture.

It’s as if we’re all possessed by the PC demon and we don’t realize it. What we need is a good exorcist.

When it comes to Islam, the blinders are fully in place. Because of the PC constraints against hate speech, profiling, racism, etc., it’s simply not permitted to consider the possibility that our deadly enemies are dispersed among us, planning violence and destruction while remaining concealed under the camouflage of “religion”.

Not that every Muslim is dangerous, or that every mosque is a hotbed of jihad zealotry. But many dangerous and seditious radicals do live in the Muslim communities and conspire in their mosques. We are in the midst of a war with this very enemy, and yet we may not monitor our foe, nor search him out in his hiding places, nor track his movements, nor eavesdrop on his conversations, nor even name him.

A case in point is what has recently happened in Los Angeles. According to the AP:

LAPD Shelves Muslim Mapping Plan

A police plan to map out Muslim communities, a proposal that civil rights groups sharply criticized as racial and religious profiling, has been shelved, a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The LAPD planned to have its counterterrorism bureau identify Muslim enclaves to determine which might be likely to become isolated and susceptible to “violent, ideologically based extremism.”

Several Muslim groups and the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California criticized the plan and sent a letter to Deputy Chief Michael P. Downing expressing their concerns.

“There was a clear message from the Muslim community that they were not comfortable with it. So we listened,” said Mary Grady, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. She couldn’t immediately say when the plan might resume.

Notice that all efforts to protect ourselves cease when Muslims become “uncomfortable”. Your wife or child may end up in fragments in a shopping mall, but Muslims will be comfortable, and that’s more important.

PC Rule #143: Muslims must be never uncomfortable, upset, or offended.

Grady said the remaining part of the initiative, which includes outreach efforts to strengthen ties with Muslim communities, would continue, and police planned to meet with Muslim leaders Thursday.

Remember what “outreach” means when Muslims are concerned. Muslim leaders — i.e. representatives of CAIR or other Saudi-funded Wahhabist groups — will come to the police and community leaders and dictate to them the rules for their interactions with Muslims.

That is: the enemy is allowed to set the time, place, and terms of engagement.

PC Rule #71: The definition of our relationship with Islam shall be defined solely by the Muslims themselves.

In a statement, Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, praised the decision.

“I am glad to hear (Downing) is putting the plan aside,” Al-Marayati said. “All Muslim organizations are united in purpose to defend the rights of Muslim Americans while developing a positive and constructive relationship with the LAPD.”

The politicians and community leaders hear the words “positive and constructive relationship” and are lulled back into a happy somnolence of good PR and an absence of alarming headlines.

PC Rule #227: The rights of Muslims supersede the rights of all others.

Downing and other city officials had defended the plan, saying the idea was to deepen ties with Muslim communities. The plan would have had data assembled by the University of Southern California’s Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events.

Notice that the plan’s purpose was “to deepen ties with Muslim communities”, rather than to “discover and thwart the enemy in our midst.”

PC Rule #1: It is forbidden to mention the fact that we have many, many deadly enemies within the “Muslim community”.

It just isn’t done.

And now the punch line to this whole sorry shaggy dog story:

There are an estimated 500,000 Muslims in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.

Most conservatives are hobbled by PC, OK, but not to the degree others are, or they could not even remain conservative in thinking. In fact, leftist are not hobbled by these constraints at all, because this is not limiting for them, but rather a device for limiting us. Successfully.
You rattled your own chains by adding the disclaimer that of course most Muslims are not dangerous. But we cannot seem to find the courage to stop using unnecessary incantations in the face of these foul winds. By this, we reaffirm their control over us.

Considering how little Muslim "leaders" have done to cooperate with the police and FBI, procedures like this are necessary, even though they seem distasteful. Sending extra police patrols through these neighborhoods is also for their own good - they may be able to halt the domestic violence that is found much more often in Muslim families.

What is that other than a sop to the PC gods? Until and unless we recognize that EVERY Muslim must be regarded as a threat to our civilization and our culture we will not survive. They don't have to be throwing bombs to destroy us. Their beliefs are incompatible with our Western principles.

Charles, xlbrl --

Yes, of course, you are quite right. Conservative Swede will no doubt also join in with you to show me the error of my ways!

But I am also trying to forestall all the arguments I would get from people who would tell me to remember that not everyone who is a Muslim is a violent jihadist. Which is true, but, as you say, not relevant.

I can't forestall the arguments -- if the "milquetoasts" don't take me to task for failing to propitiate the PC gods, then you will for the opposite reason.

Can't win for trying. :(

Baron, I would suggest that if you find that nobody is complaining about what you write then you're probably doing something wrong. Right? :)

Nah. I'm going to delete every comment where someone disagrees with me. Then...

No disagreement, no problem!

That would explain where my fifteen point plan to exterminate every thirteenth Yorkshireman has gone...

On the other hand we do not Muslim enclaves mapped out in which eventually sharia law becomes more important than or supercedes American law. An unintended consequence of the LAPD plan to map out Muslim communities might be this very thing.

Baron, there is no greater joy for me than an opportunity to criticize my betters.
However, you might not be so near to perfection as you are were it not for your willingness to suffer correction.
We have seen only recently in a large blog the result of not exercising that virtue. Balzac understood perfectly--Glory is a poison, to be taken in small doses.
