The Migration Flood

The Fjordman Report

The noted blogger Fjordman is filing this report via Gates of Vienna.
For a complete Fjordman blogography, see The Fjordman Files. There is also a multi-index listing here.

In 1974, former Algerian President Houari Boumedienne warned Europe in a speech at the UN : “One day, millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to go to the Northern Hemisphere. And they will not go there as friends. Because they will go there to conquer it. And they will conquer it with their sons. The wombs of our women will give us victory.”

“Soon we will take power in this country. Those who criticize us now, will regret it. They will have to serve us. Prepare, for the hour is near.” — Belgium-based imam in 1994.

Marie Simonsen, political editor of the Norwegian left-wing newspaper Dagbladet, wrote in March 2007 that it should be considered a universal human right for all people everywhere to migrate wherever they want to. This statement came just after a UN report had predicted a global population growth of several billion people to 2050, which amounts to a growth of more than one million people every week. It doesn’t take much skill to calculate that unlimited migration will spell certain death for a tiny Scandinavian nation such as Norway — not in a matter of generations, but theoretically even within a few weeks.

Ms. Simonsen is thus endorsing the cultural eradication and perhaps physical annihilation of her own people, and she does so almost as an afterthought, no doubt congratulating herself for her own tolerance. Her comments received no opposition from anyone in the media establishment; this silence could be construed as a demonstration that most of them share her views, or at least have themselves resigned to the fact that our death as a people is already inevitable.

Meanwhile, the EU is busy “combating” illegal immigration from Africa — by making it legal:

EU Offers Legal Jobs to Africa In Bid To Stop Illegal Immigration

The European Union plans to open a job centre in Mali, in an experiment aimed at boosting the migration to the EU that is skilled, legal and temporary immigration from Africa. In return for assistance with legal “circular immigration” Frattini expects Mali to boost its cooperation in the fight against illegal immigration to the EU. If successful, the EU will establish a network of job centres across Africa. In the 1960s Germany introduced a similar scheme for Turkish ‘guest workers’ who came to do the jobs no one wanted. However the scheme never became the ‘circular migration’ that the German government envisaged, and tensions erupted when Turkish migrants demanded citizenship rights. German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schauble told reporters he backed the new scheme because if the countries in question were going to help stem the flow of illegal immigration “you have to give something in return.” EU members France and Spain have recently signed such accords with Senegal, the jumping off point for many desperate immigrants heading for Spain’s Canary islands.

West Africa — Europe’s New Border

A study by the Royal Elcano Institute in Madrid argues that Europe may be on the brink of a flood of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, with potentially historic implications. Rickard Sandell, chief investigator for demography, reported: “Both economic and demographic data provide evidence that this is only the beginning of an immigration phenomenon that could evolve into one of the largest in history…the mass assault on Spain’s African border may just be a first warning of what to expect of the future. The situation is so serious that the possibility of a mass exodus if the African states fail to absorb their rapidly increasing working age population should not be ruled out. Nor can we rule out the possibility of armed conflict as a result of the political unrest that is likely to follow from a lack of effective management of the unprecedented increase in the labour supply.”

Stupidity Without Borders — The Alliance of Utopias

“We were just tired of living in the forest,” explained a man from Guinea-Bissau. “There was nothing to eat, there was nothing to drink.” In mid-September, Africans began assaulting the frontier of Spain’s small enclaves in Africa en masse. Deploying crude ladders made of branches, they used their weight to bring the fences down in places. As one of them put it, “We go in a group and all jump at once. We know that some will get through, that others will be injured and others may die, but we have to get through, whatever the cost.”

The Jihad Continues in Spain

Morocco and Spain vowed overnight to work together to bore a tunnel under the Strait of Gibraltar to link Africa and Europe. Moroccan experts say the long-mooted 39km rail tunnel would be among the world’s most sophisticated engineering works and rival the Channel Tunnel linking England and France. Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero pledged to drum up European Union support for a project he said “would change Africa and Europe”.

Africa migration to Europe inevitable-Gaddafi

Migration is an age-old fact of life that governments must accept if they want to manage the flow of job-seekers moving from Africa to Europe, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi told an Africa-Europe conference on migration. “Action against nature is like rowing against the stream, which leads to failure,” Gaddafi told African and European interior ministers at the first African Union-European Union conference on migration, the Libyan news agency reported. “Political borders, official papers and identities set for every group of people are new, artificial things not recognised by nature. Land is property of everyone, and God commands all human beings to migrate on earth to seek a living, which is their right.”

EU-Africa Summit Addresses European Migration

European and African nations met in Libya to seek ways to stem the rising tide of illegal migration. The Libyan foreign minister, Abd al-Rahman Shalgam, told the conference that EU countries must provide assistance to Libya. Shalgam also says more projects are needed on the ground in Africa to keep people in their own countries. African leaders agree that more jobs need to be created so that people will not have to leave their countries to earn a living.

Who Are We, Who Are Our Enemies — The Cost of Historical Amnesia
- - - - - - - - - -
The Barbary Jihad piracy had been going on since the earliest Arab-Islamic expansion in the 7th and 8th centuries. During the 16th and 17th centuries, as many Europeans were captured, sold, and enslaved by the Barbary corsairs while West Africans shipped for plantation labor in the Americas by European slave traders. Robert Davis’ methodical enumeration indicates that between one and one and one-quarter million white European Christians were enslaved by the Barbary Muslims from 1530 through 1780.

Some Arabs seem to miss the good old days when they could extract Jizya payments from the West. Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has stated that he thinks that European nations should pay 10 billion euros ($12.7 billion dollars) a year to Africa to help it stop migrants flooding northwards into Europe. Apart from being a clear-cut example of how migration, or rather population dumping by Third World countries, has become a tool for blackmail in the 21st century, this is a throwback to the age when Tripoli could extract payments from Europe.

EU, African ministers seek common stand on immigration

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees urged participants to make special provision for “refugees and other people who have need of protection.” Amnesty International called on European countries to “open legal channels of migration as an important element in a global strategy on migration and development”. So far Libya has refused Europeans permission to patrol its territorial waters, amid suspicions in Europe that Libyan leader Kadhafi turns the immigration tap on and off to suit his immediate interests.

EU job centres to target Africans

The International Organisation for Migration says it’s a “constructive step in the right direction. You can’t manage migration flows by simply having tougher border controls,” says IOM spokesman Jean-Philippe Chauzy. “If you’re trying to undercut the people smugglers, the best way is to open up legal opportunities (for migrants).”

Chirac: Africans ‘will flood world’

Jacques Chirac, the French president, claimed Africans “will flood the world” if more is not done to improve the continent’s economy. He said that almost half of the 950 million people living on the African continent were under the age of 17, adding that the population would more than double by the middle of the century. “If we do not develop Africa, if we do not make available the necessary resources to bring about this development, these people will flood the world.”

Beware: the new goths are coming

In an apocalyptic vision of security dangers, Rear Admiral Chris Parry said future migrations would be comparable to the Goths and Vandals while north African “Barbary” pirates could be attacking yachts and beaches in the Mediterranean within 10 years. Europe could be undermined by large immigrant groups with little allegiance to their host countries — a “reverse colonisation” as Parry described it. If a security breakdown occurred, he said, it was likely to be brought on by environmental destruction and a population boom, coupled with technology and radical Islam. The result for Britain and Europe, Parry warned, could be “like the 5th century Roman empire facing the Goths and the Vandals.”

Fatalism and the Loss of Western Cultural Confidence

The waves of migration that the Western world is faced with now are magnitudes greater in scope than those which brought down the Roman Empire. At least 2.2 million migrants will arrive in the West every year until 2050, according to a United Nations report . It appears to be taken for granted by the UN that we will sit back, bleed to death and accept all these millions to flood our countries. It is presented like a natural disaster, as if the massive population growth cannot be stopped by the nations in question, and the ensuing migration cannot be limited by Western countries.

But both these assumptions are wrong. Westerners should not and cannot take responsibility for billions of people in other parts of the world. They will have to limit their population growth to a sustainable level. We have already accepted more immigration peacefully than any other society has done in human history.

There is a significant element of blackmail here. A group of African leaders told the European Union that they needed to get huge amounts of money to limit mass migration from their countries, which is a tacit admission that they can control this mass movement of people if they want to.

Many Westerners watch with resigned fatalism as we are told by our leaders and our media that this is “inevitable.” But nothing is inevitable. Our societies will collapse, yet we are supposed to stand by quietly and simply observe our own demise. On one hand, the economic right-wing assures us that this unparalleled mass migration will be “good for the economy.” On the other hand, left-wingers attack those of us who are concerned for our cultural survival us for inciting “racism and discrimination.” Meanwhile all we desire is our continued existence.

At Lawrence Auster’s blog, an Indian living in the West writes: “They say that all ‘rich nations’ will face mass immigration. But, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and even Malaysia are also rich nations. Immigration to those countries is close to zero. I think that immigration is matter of government policy and national will. If the will is there, you can have zero immigration or limited immigration. But there isn’t the will to do anything about immigration in the West. Instead they sit and wring their hands. (…) If there was ever a picture of a society that has been completely finished, this is it. You don’t have to discriminate on racial grounds or religious grounds, just reduce the annual quota to 1000 or 10000. Nothing illiberal about that. But they cannot contemplate even that! Westerners amuse me. Even the worst cowards in the so-called ‘third world’ have more spine than this.

The Failure of Western Universities

Professor Sigurd Skirbekk at the University of Oslo questions many of the assumptions underlying Western immigration policies. One of these unwritten rules is the notion that rich countries have a duty to take in any and all people from other nations that are suffering, either from natural disasters, political repression or overpopulation.

According to Professor Skirbekk, it cannot be considered moral behavior on the part of the cultural, political and religious elites of these countries to allow their populations to grow unrestrained and then push their excess population onto other nations. Skirbekk points out that European countries earlier rejected the Germans when they used the argument of lebensraum as a motivation for their foreign policy.

We should now follow the same policy when other countries invoke the argument that they lack space for their population. Skirbekk says there is plenty of literature available about the ecological challenges the world will be facing in this century. Demanding a too- liberal immigration policy while refusing to confront such unpleasant moral issues is not a sustainable alternative in the long run.

Ugh. If there's any good news in this, it's that Black Africans are not necessarily Muslim. And the ones I've met have generally been good folks, looking to get ahead rather than blow things up.

Sadly, I had hoped that Kaddafi (sp?) had been tamed. Doesn't necessarily look that way.

Things just keep getting uglier for Europe.

There is an interesting evolutionary question here. Many muslim nations and also several african nations are extremely over populated. The reason for this is clear. People still have many kids there, like in the old days, when only a few would survive. However, today modern medicine keeps them all alive. The West developed modern medicine slowly, and there was time for birth rates to adjust. They just got it quite suddenly. Over population causes african starvations and job problems in the arab countries, and we don't want to see people die of starvation (rightfully so) so we send them food and money.

My personal thought is that if we help these countries we have a right to ask them to introduce birth control classes in schools or other measures that would keep their populations from collapsing over and over and being saved again and again. Otherwise, our help only makes things worse. more kids -> more support -> they have more kids -> more support...
Population growth is exponential.

In addition, the US and Europe pay a lot of money to the UN refugee agency. They have a right to demand that the money they pay does not go to arab schools that teach kids that the West is a creation of the Devil (anyone saw a palestinian school book? amazing stuff and sponsored by the UN). Sadly, the money goes there, so basically, the West is financing its own enemies. As a western-minded person I am worried. As someone who belies in evolution, I believe most of the west should better go extinct.
Lucky for us there are countries like India that still have self pride and that will preserve some of the so-called "West"'s achievements.

You know the AIDs epidemic in Africa? It's not caused by unprotected heterosexual intercourse, as the MSM claims.

It is caused by unsterile needles used on African children for vaccinations. They are spreading the plague of HIV there by ngo's like the World Health Organization's push for vaccinations. Bring your children in to be vaccinated and they have a very good chance of ending up with AIDs.

The story about the Bulgarian nurses being jaield for spreading AIDs in Lybia has dropped off the front pages now, but those kids have AIDs when they get to the hospitals...

One reason that the hard wiring in human beings demands overproduction: the kids keep dying. It's a vicious cycle.

History Snark said...

Dymphna,

A clarification, please: You seem to be suggesting that the nurses there are guilty, even if it was unintentional. Is this correct, or am I misunderstanding you?

Shrimpville said...

Well, unprotected heterosexual sex helps spread AIDS. It is visible in modern western countries these days, where hetrosexual women are becoming the biggest risk group in some areas.

What is the nurses in Lybia deal? I have not heard of it.

As for beind hard wired to have kids: We are hard-wired to have sexual intercourse. Sexual intercourse is related to pregnancy. Birth control breaks the sex->kids link. The proof is the low birth rates in most of the West. The idea that the population remains at roughly the same size is not necessarily bad, if all groups in the society grow in the same rate. Sadly, it did not work so well. Any evolutionary biologist (and any kid who does simulations on MATLAB) can see that a higher birth rate translates into a modified society whithin a couple of generations. Add to this the shorter generation time of muslims (they start having kids in a younger age) and immigration, and you come to the following conclusion:
This is a good time for any straight or gay couple, whether they are atheist or christian or jewish or hindu or budhist (as long as they are kuffars) to decide to have families of 10 kids and more. :)

In Israel, in the old days of the beginning of the country, the government encouraged jewish women to have more kids. My grandmother had 10 kids (I have a huge family, mostly science and medicine oriented, and I am very thankful for that). There were tax breaks and other insentives, even though it was their personal choice.
My mother had 4 kids, most of her brothers and sisters had 2-3 kids.
Most of my generation is planning on 1-2 kids. I can understand why people don't want a family with 10 kids, but I most say, it can be great.

Today, the government ignores the demography subject. Any talk about "jewish birth rate" in Israel is considered "racist". Thankfully, there are enough jews in Israel that remember what it is like to live without any country of their own, and we won't give it up so easily.

Shrimpville said...

I wanted to add, that I think that a big part of Europe's problem is that people there cannot imagine what it would be like without their own country. Not in the nationalistic sense, but in the sense of the rights they acheived. The only reason a dutch gay person or a danish woman could vote for a party that offers to bring in immigrants whose culture and religion oppose women-rights is this: They have been so sheltered that they have no clue.
The US has been like the parent of Europe for a while. Knowing that the parent would deal with the security problems of Europe, especially during the cold war, left it in a mentality of the teenager that got a car from his parents but it was green, and how did they dare to buy him a GREEN car without asking about the color?

(I can already see the complaint email from one of my danish friends who would read this sooner or later this weak).

"They will flood the Earth".

Shahar's comment about more children needing more support and causing more problems reminds of a story I heard from a friend. Her father used to work in Eastern Africa as an engineer in a development program digging wells, so as to provide clean and easy to reach drinking water to the villages. Previously the women had been responsible for carrying water to the villages and camps (yes it was a refugee area) from a river. During long dry seasons it was hard and arduous labor because of the distances involved and the women spent much of the day on this task. Then the Westerners came, dug deep wells and the women no longer had to walk half the day just to provide their families with drinking water. Readily available fresh water and a lot more time for activities other than carrying water resulted in a massive baby boom (I've read relief worker accounts about one of the problems huge African camps, populated for years by displaced people, face: out of their country with no work and nothing to do, people spend much of the time having sex and having babies). Already living on the limits and supported by food relief, people started to starve. Faction rivalries broke out over the control of food as it ran out. More children than ever suffered of malnutrition and disease. It all ended up a disaster. Only vastly increased aid in food from the West saved thousands and thousands of people from starving.

Now this little story has a lot to think about in what us Westerners have done to Africa in our eagerness to help the people of the continent after all the years of exploitation.

Why sub-saharan Africans assault fences on the shores of the mediterranean and board rafts heading for the Canary, willingly burning their passports, facing incredible hardship, bullets, and death to reach EU soil. You could use the story, completely true and accurate or not, as a metaphor of sorts for a lot of our ventures fueled by good intentions after the 50s and 60s that only end up causing more loss of life, more misery.

Western medicine saves babies on a country that cannot support them under a government that has no interest in supporting them. Western food aid keeps alive populations that have no means to survive and are forced to depend on it, or the food ends in the hands of people who would use it as a weapon. One African relief worker, in Sudan IIRC, said "They have learned one thing only, as long as they keep fighting, the West will keep feeding them" (during the North/South conflicts of the late 90s where the West rushed to feed starving populations thus providing the fighting factions who grabbed the food with the means to keep fighting, while the hungry kept starving). Cold, hard cash is channeled through governments that merely plunder it for their own enrichment and support their Big Man systems of patronage with it. There is no need nor push on governmental and national scale to become self sufficient in agriculture as long as the West keeps handing huge subsidies to Western farmers, making it non-profitable to grow food in much of Africa, and feeding Africa at the same time. Still, many of the worst famines African nations have faced are almost entirely artificial. Food is not distributed even where there is food. Food is rotting in train cars while people starve behind a fence two hundred yards away.

How to break this vicious cycle? What can the West do? Can we even do anything without a severe attitude adjustment somewhere? It has continued for 50 years now. Previous contributors in aid and funds have become more and more skeptical and careful yet the money keeps flowing the the conditions in Africa continue to degrade. Yes degrade, the start of the century saw Africa in a worse state than it was before independence and the end of colonial rule, facing seemingly insurmountable problems. Our methods have failed catastrophically. Today it seems naive or arrogant or both. A rational Westerner might think "this country is starving, if we provide food they will not starve and will find a way to fix whatever is wrong". This might be rational in the West. If, say, Switzerland would suddenly run out of food I'm pretty sure they'd make sure it won't happen again because of the same reasons very soon. Not so in Africa. The situation and the causes are something modern Western society has not honestly faced and dealt with before and we have no experience and possibly no real means to solve it for the good of all as long as we hang on to our view of how the world should work. Throwing money or food certainly has not helped Africa, it feels our short term, stop-gap measures and fumbling attempts to help only serve to cause more damage. Of over 100 billions of dollars poured over the continent in aid there is almost nothing to show. Of the huge mineral and oil resources worth billions in exports, the average African has nothing. Of the poverty, unemployment and disasters the Africans face, their leaders keep blaming the West.

So why worry over helping Africans? Why should we push or drag the continent, be it willingly or kicking and screaming, on its feet and preferably as quickly as possible? Europe will face adversity difficult to overcome in the future. We are heading towards extinction even without outside threats. A Nigerian civil servant said of Nigeria that if the West would stop all their aid now, right now, 95% of the people would never even notice it. Taken at face value this should tell us we can be sure the Nigerian strong men who are in control have absolutely no interest in whatever suffering and hardships the population is going through and surely even less interest in the current or future immigration problems the West is facing. I would hazard the guess that this is true in many more places than Nigeria. The past half decade shows a horrible track record from African governments to solve their failed states and a similarly bad record of long term use of the aid from West. The West does not need more problems now, we have enough on our hands and I can hear more incoming. We better start getting realistic about the ways of helping the African continent and real quick too, or face never seen before multitudes of immigrants who will stop at nothing to get their hands on some of the real and perceived luxury we live in.

In the midst of these highly spot-on comments, let me add that the migration does not go both ways. I can't migrate to Ireland because my grandmother was not Irish (directly) but my great grandmother was.

On a happy note, Mexico only has about 75 million more folks to send to the USA. Why can't we just swap land-mass and take our tax dollars with us?

Profitsbeard is right on as usual - we just need cartoons of it to create unrest. I'm sure somewhere there is a book, white paper, that discusses the goals of the internationalists - Bush, Condi, et al - that bought Michael Jackson's song, We are the World, and said, UN make it so.

Improvements in Africa will not come will not come without gainful employment and hope.

Employment and hope will not come without stability.

While self determination is a laudable goal 1960 was not the time for it, 2060 might have been but alas…

RE: Dan. What causes me most grief is the useless drainage of resources. I can't figure out reasons to justify "help" that merely damages and stops a continent from saving itself. Is it morally right to save a million people so the next generation will see three more million suffer?

Damn, I wrote a kilometer long rant and it just _vanished_. Anyway...

RE: Joshua. The nations that have Muslim and non-Muslim populations along the 12th parallel, Sudan, Chat, Somalia etc. have been fighting amongst themselves for generations. There is nothing in sub-saharan Africa the Muslims want or could take. Islam will not spread south any more than it was the past half a dozen centuries. The leaders along the fault line change religion like a coat in hopes of funding and aid. No impoverished Asian or North African Muslim would want to immigrate or live in South Africa. The governments there can't and won't pay social welfare or health care even for their own population. There is are even less jobs available. People have tribal allegiances with little space to spare for a system that has treated the Blacks as slaves for hundreds of years. Suddenly arriving troublesome Muslim groups looking to wrestle control from the local Strong Men would be thrown over a border or into the bush, left to fend for themselves or killed. Or just ignored along the rest of the population.

I can imagine the consequences of aggressive, threatening Muslims burning houses or flags and raising hell demanding respect from Veteran Tutsi combatants or possibly the Angolan defense force because they saw a picture in a paper and it find unpleasant, even insulting. But I think the Muslims are smart enough not to end up in a situation like that. Most people will rather not get killed and threatening people who would laugh at your infantile tantrum before shooting you does not serve any agenda.

The rich Muslim elite can exploit Africa just as well as the West right now, but investing to advance the Muslim cause would be risky as any leader would be willing to leech every dollar you hand out but would not give anything back. Sudan, a former Islamist dictatorship, sent a bitter bin Laden to Afganistan, expelled foreign fighters and disbanded extreme Muslim parties when threated by more or less all the neighbouring nations and reviled by the rest of the world as a terrorist haven that risked losing aid and development program funding. Government sanctioned janjaweed was licensed to kill and plunder at will in the south and ended up fighting both non-Muslims and Muslims. In Africa, the cause is getting rich and staying in power no matter what. I guess that goes for everyone but they don't even try to hide it much.

I don't think the Arabs are stupid enough to grab more of the load of supporting the African mess from the West.

And only in Europe do we voluntarily take in people who loathe us and our culture and go on to give them a place to live with a monthly salary for calling our women whores, being angry because of real or imaginary oppression, throwing rocks and contributing to growing crime rate.

This data is absolutely terrifying. I'm here in the U.S. watching what's happening to Europe, not only because I have loved Europe in the past but also because I know it will happen here as well, if we let it. And all the signs are that we will in the same manner.

As for the spread of HIV in Africa being attributed to needles, well, I've heard that for 15 years now - so why has the population during that time increased by 200 million?
