Developments now under way at the University of California should be carefully watched.

On July 9, a report was issued on “Muslim and Arab Student Campus Climate at the University of California.”

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/documents/campus_climate_muslim-arab.pdf

Among other things, the report recommends “general meditation or reflection space” on campus, “accommodations for Islamic dietary provisions,” and “living accommodations that are sensitive to Islamic and other religious provisions.”

Whether the University will acquiesce to these requests remains to be seen.

Some UC administrators are surprisingly naïve, unsophisticated, and ill-informed. Their heads are full of rhetoric about diversity and multiculturalism, but they are ignorant when it comes to the facts of world history, geography, politics, and world affairs generally. It may not be wise to entrust them with defending First Amendment rights, freedom of inquiry, and the separation of church and state that should apply at a state university supported by California taxpayers’ money.

Would California taxpayers be happy if they knew they were subsidizing a mosque on campus or Islamic gender segregation?

The University of California is poised to take actions that are probably not illegal, but certainly mistaken, mistakes with very serious political and cultural consequences.

On Fogh Rasmussen proclaiming that NATO will defend Turkery against Syrian incursions or invasion. I hope that Mr Rasmussen considers himself a real leader who sets examples by leading from the front and takes up arms and uniform to fire the first shot into Syria. Otherwise, he should keep his mouth shut!
