The Italian military is standing ready as the level of violence in the country increases. The head of the state-owned nuclear power company was shot and wounded, and a parcel bomb was sent to the Italian equivalent of the IRS. All this in the midst of an unprecedented wave of suicides prompted by the economic crisis, whose latest victim is a husband and father who burned himself to death in despair over his continuing unemployment.
In other news, Japan, China, and South Korea have agreed to hold talks about creating a free trade zone to help boost their economies during the current crisis.
