The United Nations High Commission for Refugees warned the Italian authorities to prepare for a new wave of boat people crossing the Mediterranean to the island of Lampedusa. The seasonal improvement in the weather is said to be one of the reasons new boatloads of migrants have attempted landfall at Italian locations. The continuing unsettled political situation in the Maghreb and the Horn of Africa is another contributing factor.
In other news, around a hundred anti-Putin protesters were arrested outside a TV station in Moscow. The demonstrators were protesting a movie that portrayed anti-Putin protesters as being paid to protest.
