Dozens of Shi’ite worshippers were killed by a suicide bomber who detonated himself in the middle of a crowd in Kabul. The Shi’ites had gathered to observe Ashura, the festival associated with the martyrdom of Mohammed’s grandson Hussein.
In other news, an adviser to the Iraqi prime minister says the former foreign minister Tariq Aziz, who served under Saddam Hussein, will be executed sometime next year, after American troops withdraw from Iraq.
