Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/9/2011

Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/9/2011Syrian security forces are continuing their ruthless crackdown on demonstrators in several major cities. In Deraa, police fired on a crowd that was chanting protest slogans just after a funeral for demonstrators killed yesterday. Police also opened fire on protesters in the coastal city of Latakia. There were additional incidents in Homs, Qamishli, Deir e-Zor, Banias, and Duma, on the outskirts of Damascus. Kurds in the northeast joined the protests.

In other news, demonstrators in Cairo marched on the Israeli embassy, burned Israeli flags, and chanted their support of the Palestinians, calling for a third intifada on Naqba Day. Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says he will not officially withdraw the Goldstone Report, which condemned Israel over Operation Cast Lead, despite the author’s retraction of its major conclusions.

Slaughtered at School: German Kids Endure Hare-Raising Experience

This is very disturbing on many levels.

Among other things, it really looks like a way to ape the Muslim custom of Eid, by which young boys are getting used to viewing the slaughtering of sheep, in order to de-sensitize them to blood, violence, suffering and death.
