I’m talking about the crowds of Pakistani lawyers and other prominent citizens who have been celebrating Malik Mumtaz Qadri, the assassin of the governor of Punjab. As you may recall, Gov. Salman Taseer was gunned down on Tuesday by his bodyguard for his blasphemous opposition to Pakistan’s blasphemy law.
“Wait a minute, Baron!” you say. “How can you call all those zealots ‘moderates’?”
Because that’s what they’re billed as by well-meaning people.
Cast your mind back to last night’s news feed, which featured a report on the five hundred Pakistani religious scholars who warned Muslims not to grieve over the dead blasphemer, or risk sharing his fate. These reputable scholiasts belong to a group called Jamaat-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, which is commonly described as “moderate”. Their moderation tells them that Salman Taseer got what was coming to him:
[The scholars] also said that the ‘so-called’ intellectuals, ministers, politicians and television anchors who oppose the blasphemy law and support those committing blasphemy should learn a lesson from Taseer’s death.
Now come the lawyers, showering the assassin with rose petals. According to Arab News:
Pakistani Lawyers Salute Taseer’s Killer
ISLAMABAD: The killer of Punjab Gov. Salman Taseer was showered with rose petals by lawyers when he was presented Wednesday before District and Sessions Judge Malik Naeem Shaukat by police. The court gave Islamabad police remand of Malik Mumtaz Qadri for a day.
Qadri was brought to court in an armored car. A rowdy crowd slapped him on the back and kissed him as he was escorted inside the court. The lawyers who tossed the rose petals were not involved in the case.
As he left the court, a crowd of about 200 sympathizers raised slogans in his favor.
Earlier, more than 500 preachers and scholars from the Jamat Ahle Sunnat group said no one should pray or express regret for the killing of the governor. The group representing Pakistan’s majority Barelvi sect also issued a veiled threat to other opponents of the blasphemy laws.
“The supporter is as guilty as one who committed blasphemy,” the group warned in a statement, adding politicians, the media and others should learn “a lesson from the exemplary death.” Jamat leader Maulana Shah Turabul Haq Qadri paid “glorious tribute to the murderer … for his courage, bravery and religious honor and integrity.”
Folks, these are the moderate Muslims.
They are well-educated professionals, respected in their fields. They are no “tiny minority”: they are the not-so-silent majority.
If these are the moderates, I’d hate to see the extremists.
Hat tip: KGS.

The supports of the murders are actually doing us a favor, the more people who see the video the more who will start questioning their ideas of Islam as a religion of peace.
People like Baron do us a favour, by exposing these maniacs. Supporters of murderers never do any good.
I agree overall: We have finally found the mythical 'Moderate Muslims'. It's time for celebrations, and to publicize this fact widely:
Moderates are the ones merely supporting the radicals.
As Erdogan said: "The term 'Moderate Islam' is ugly and offensive. Islam is Islam, period."
Great the moderates are marching at last! Oh well.. (love the irony @Baron)
I'm gonna test this with some of my liberal friends. And this is what will happen.
'Look!' I will say, 'look at the face of moderateness in Islam!'
'Yes,' they'll answer in polite disdain, 'that's Pakistan, but my hard working Muslim neighbours are so very friendly and besides, their daughters don't wear burqas and he doesn't beat up his wife every other week.'
..
Sag.
The assassin was a Sufi, who are the most peaceful and non-violent Muslims.
Dang it, I saw this in my blogroll feed over at the Zilla blog & I got all excited, hoping that FINALLY some of the nice normal people who happen to have been born muslim had finally found their spines and joined us in speaking out against this insanity but I guess it was not to be. If they speak out, they'll be killed even faster than the rest of us, too bad they don't realize that failure to speak out is a death sentence anyway.
These kinds of spectacles certainly help, but let us not underestimate the resiliency of PC MC, for which 500 Muslim scholars simply isn't enough to prove our implicit point -- that the majority (if not all) of Muslims are dangerous. 500 scholars out of a country of about 170 million is simply not enough for the PC MC mentality, which suffers from a lack of the dot-connecting neurochemical. Nothing short of the spectacle of at least 100 million Pakistanis vociferating for some "extremism" or other will suffice, I'm afraid.

One of the few grains of truth to spring from a Muslim mouth.
Think of Mohamadeans as a bell curve. 1.2 billion of them(or there abouts)
10% are liberal, 10% are Dedicated Violent Jihadists, and the rest in the middle (or moderates) pretty much defer to the orthodox views of Islam, Islamic Supremacy, Death for Apostacy, Jihad as legitimate, Shariah Law, Islamic Dominion and Imperialism, and so on and so forth.
Take their NUKES
Or let the "Good Muslims" use them against the "Bad Muslims" (whoever either happens to be this week).
Furthermore, I believe Pakistan should be dissolved.

These are moderates
Al-Khwarizmi: Too little, too late.
In order to moderate Egyptian Muslim behavior, the mass of Muslims need to abandon the parts of Sharia Law including those that accord non-Muslims the status of slaves whose non-Muslim marriages are NOT recognized - and whose churches and synagogues may NOT be built or repaired. Again, the Muslim human shield act is all about public relations designed to keep the jizya flowing from the greater international community - instead of real meaningful lasting theological and political change.
Of course, any real meaningful lasting theological and political change would equate to Muslims questioning Allah, Mohammed, and Sharia Law - which is Islamic blasphemy - an automatic ummah-wide death sentence that may be imposed by any member of the greater Muslim ummah upon any other member at will without trial.
There is NO Islamic theological basis for moderate Muslims. Indeed, moderate Muslims are apostates - apostates who benefit from the rewards reaped by the criminal behavior of strict Muslims.
Too little, too late.
Let their overall societal actions on more than one night prove me wrong over time. I'm waiting....
To be clear: Non-Muslims do NOT want some Muslims to act as human shields for one religious service after the annual Muslim Christmas massacre. Non-Muslims want ALL Muslims to fundamentally recognize the humanity of non-Muslims at all times in all places and to stop promulgating incessant hate speech and actions against non-Muslims.
