A suspect has reportedly been arrested for the firebombing, but I have no news in English about it so far.

What Mr. Vilks needs is a shotgun.

For a rural setting, a good alarm system is a pond with several geese. They'll make the devil of a racket if anyone approaches, and are harder to take out than a single dog.

And yes, definitely, a shotgun. Twelve-gauge is best, with the 3-inch (76mm) Brenneke slug load. And get a weapon-mounted flashlight to go with it.
