Join the Art Project (Again)!

Join the Art ProjectThe conspiracy to murder Lars Vilks has prompted a lot of interest in the life and work of the Modoggie Man.

The latest news stories — which often include no images of the actual “Profeten som Rondellhund” drawings — cause people to google “Lars Vilks”, and as a result we have acquired a number of new readers in the last few days who come looking for one or more of the infamous Roundabout Dogs.

Conservative Swede’s blog became inactive a while back, so I had taken down the “Join the Art Project” icon on our sidebar. However, at the suggestion of several readers, I have revived the Art Project and restored the image. I’ll let the Swede himself explain it:

Lars Vilks’ Modoggies are an art project of his, and have been all along. Vilks is a modernist and sees the interaction with the audience as more important than the artwork as such. Thus he considers Ahmadinejad’s statement that “Zionists are behind such a dirty job” and Al Qaeda’s death threats as part of his artwork, as well as other reactions such as comments at his blog.

[…]

Lars Vilks sees Ahmadinejad’s and Al Qaeda’s reactions as comedy. I suggest that we, by displaying this image, follow Vilks’ example of speaking softly while carrying a big cartoon.

A playful, comic approach on our side.

Rage and death threats on their side.

Illuminating contrasts, just as the big thing at the Brussels demo was the illuminating contrasts.

Come on join this art project!

Put up the Modoggie flag and be part of Lars Vilks’ artwork yourself. Support and exercise free speech at the same time!

Drop by the Swede’s place for the rest of the story, including an explanation of why the flag used with the Modoggie icon is not the Swedish national flag, but the green and yellow flag of the tiny island Öland.
