Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has conceded the Texas gubernatorial primary to incumbent governor Rick Perry, avoiding the need for a run-off. Gov. Perry will face former Houston mayor Bill White in the general election next fall.
In other news, Nigel Farage, a member of the European Parliament for UKIP, was fined €3,000 for insulting European President Herman Van Rompuy on the floor of Parliament last week. Meanwhile, a former Bosnian president, the Muslim Ejup Ganic, was arrested at Heathrow Airport for suspected war crimes in Bosnia.
Also, a report by a group of prominent economists warns that if the United States does not take drastic action to shore up the banking system, there is a real risk of a “calamitous global collapse”.
