Yet more officers in the Turkish army have been arrested by the Erdogan government for conspiracy in an alleged plot to overthrow the government in 2003. This seems a self-confident move by the Islamist government to de-fang the army and remove one of the main bastions of the secular Turkish state.
In other news, the demise of the euro now seems all but inevitable, since international financier George Soros and other major hedge-fund managers have decided to bet against it.
