Cultural Enrichment from Bosnia

Cultural Enrichment News

Our Danish correspondent TB has translated another diversity-related news story from today’s Jyllands-Posten. He includes this prefatory note:

Another one of these small articles that we, unfortunately, are getting so used to. This one is about protecting the “honor” of the family. Not a big case, but these are the kind of things that are all over the news every day now. It is terrible.

This time, though, the judge’s final statement is not without a humorous touch.

Cultural enrichment from Bosnia:

Brothers convicted for violence against their little sister

Two Bosnian brothers have been convicted for violence and threats against their own sister. Østre Landsret [the court] chose to increase the sentence that they had already received.

Originally they had got 60 days in prison but the appeal doubled that time.

Both have been sentenced for slapping the girl in the head. And for using violence and threats to try to control the sister’s life, the court states in the verdict.

The 20-year-old girl explained to the court that her brothers acted as the rulers of the family. They did not like her Danish boyfriend and made strict rules about her whereabouts. According to the woman the brothers threatened to kill her if she did not break up her relationship, and she told the police that she feared being sent home to her mother’s sister in Montenegro. In the end she chose to run away.

The two brothers have pleaded not guilty to committing violence. They have admitted that they thought her boyfriend was a little too young but as they said “they were only trying to protect their little sister”. In court they stated that “while they are Muslims, they are not fundamentalists”. When the court of law handed down its decision the judge made it clear that he did not see the case as a question of “honor”, but only as what he called “an outdated perception, by Danish standards, that does not take into account the equality among sexes which is normal standard in Danish society”. [emphasis added]

And if you point this out, many say that you're a pro-Serbia genocidal mass murderer.
